We will also celebrate the new release this evening of “The Fluffernutter” Russian Imperial Stout and dive deep into a craft-beer-powered discussion on a ranger of interesting topics with Saloon Door brewers Louis Barrera, Alexander TheAcceptable and Joshua Anderson. Although Mighty Mike is on vacation in Italy and will be absent tonight, GCPH alumi and Houston Craft Beer Influencer Sylvia B from Draught Queens radio and Co-Chapter Lead at Houston Girls Pint Out will be reuniting with host John Ennis to help keep the conversation (and beers) flowing. It should be a great show and if time allows, we will tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and space thanks to our friends at the SCENE Magazine including following up on last week’s discussion with Punkstar Radio’s Khris Harding and Glen Autry and the platinum selling, Grammy nominated hard rocker Paul Crosby about this weekend’s massive Willow Fest all-day show on Saturday, March 14 at the Brazoria County Fair Grounds featuring Crosby’s internationally-known band Saliva, The Hunger, Faceplant, Downfall 2012, Dead Set Red, Alvin & the Slickpunks, Tame Fury, Cripple The Empire, The Dope Show, Hour 25, King Baby & King Kello among others. Other upcoming shows of note include tonight’s (Thursday, 3/12) appearance of the Celtic hard rockers the Blaggards at T-bone Tom’s, the award-winning Southern-Fried rock and blues of guitar ace and singer/songwriter Mark May and his band at Katie’s tomorrow night (Friday, 3/13) and fan favorite The Slags Saturday (3/14) at Jackie’s Brickhouse. And, as always, there is a full lineup of music just down the street from our studio at Scout Bar all weekend long including the Deft-Ones - a tribute to Deftones and Revolver- a tribute to Rage Against the Machine on Friday night (3/13) and the Black Market Tragedy Album Release Show with support acts Para Bellum, Seven8Seven, Eastgate and Shaving Susie on Saturday night (3/14). Few, if any, breweries have gotten off to as impressive a start as Holler Brewing, which celebrated a Great American Beer Festival win and a Certified Cicerone® achievement inside the first year of operation. We look forward to learning more about the brewery, the couple behind it (our advance investigative staff has unearthed an impressive beer background between the two including the Siebel Institute in Chicago, Doemens Academy in Munich, the aforementioned Certified Cicerone program and out-of-state brewery experience) and their journey of education, experience, permitting, planning, test batching, more permitting and construction to get to where they stand today. On that note, the brewery is celebrating its second anniversary this Saturday with Hollerpalooza II, which we will cover in depth. Rumor is there will be multiple new Holler beer releases along with live music, food and free admission. We are also excited to discuss, and hopefully try, the recent Holler/Nobi Pub collaboration “Not Trending: Brown Ale” that Herrin helped brew at Holler. According to our research, “Not Trending: Brown Ale” is a Texas Brown Ale dry hopped with Chinook and Amarillo with a dank, floral aroma and a big malty flavor with a bitter, dry finish. Since we have been trying to get Herrin on the show for a while, we have a ton of questions for him regarding the status of the local, state and national craft beer, NEIPAs, impact of social media on craft and much more. If time allows (thought it likely won’t with this lineup), we will bring back the Galactic Coast Challenge where we will see if brewers still keep the exclusive edge over astronauts, aquanauts, aviators, American Ninja Warriors, artists, authors and Air Force Generals. We also p[lan to preview the upcoming Weekend Live Music Calendar (Pick of the weekend could be national acts Mickey Avalon and Dirt Nasty tonight at Scout Bar). And as always, we will put our guest to the test with our signature, on-topic, super-special audio quiz. Did we mention there will be beer? Thirsty yet? Harding, who had the Galactic Guys on his dynamic broadcast Punkstar Full Throttle live from Scout Bar 5+ years ago, has been on our guest wish list since day one and roughly two years later the calendars have aligned and its finally going to happen. The discussion is sure to include the local live music scene including this Saturday’s Support Local Music Showcase at the area’s newest live music venue, The Yard at Barge 295 along the north shore of Clear Lake which Harding and Autrey are hosting. We will also take a deep dive into the massive Willow Fest show on Saturday, March 14 at the Brazoria County Fair Grounds featuring Saliva, The Hunger, Faceplant, Downfall 2012, Dead Set Red, Alvin & the Slickpunks, Tame Fury, Cripple The Empire, The Dope Show, Hour 25, King Baby & King Kello among others. Tonight is going to be a fun — if not wild — show and if time allows, we will tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and space thanks to our friends at the SCENE Magazine including tonight’s Battle for SxSW Officially Unofficial featuring Etsai, Of The Fallen, Deteriorated, The Tenebrian Machine, Envy the Dead and more just down the street from our studio at Scout Bar immediately following our show. We are also excited about the all day S.O.S. Fest benefit for musican/songwriter and past GCPH guest Marc Borde Saturday (March 7) at Fattys and featuring 12 hours (14 acts) of live music including the much anticipated reunion of Shark Attack. Make sure to check out the SCENE’s Magazine’s recent post covering all of the live music this weekend along the Galactic Coast (Home of Human Spaceflight and Waterfront Capital of Texas). Thirsty yet? Then grab a brew and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7:30pm!! Tonight show will be streamed live on Vinyl Draught Radio at www.vinyldraughtlive.com (click the listen live button and don’t worry what the player displays as it often displays the last song played before the show takes over the stream). The show will also be available on a range of networks, apps and platforms including , iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn, Player FM, Live 365, iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spreaker, Google Play, SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Cashbox, Deezer and Podcast Addict among others. Galactic Coast Power Hour mobile apps for both IOS/Apple and Google/Android devices are coming soon! He joined No Label Brewing Company, where he quickly became head brewer, before continuing to Southern Star Brewing and earning a reputation for creating finely crafted and highly drinkable beers. The New Orleans-born Donewar and Canadian Steeves have worked together in Houston’s energy industry for years and found a common interest in homebrewing and eventually opening a brewery. The dream became reality when Local Group made a long-term investment in it’s Near Northside neighborhood by purchasing the building it now calls home.
Local Group recently made news by hiring the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts educated Jeff Samosa as the brewpub’s Executive Chef. Samosa has more than 15 years experience cooking delicious food at spots including North Italia, six different Hyatt hotels across the nation and Houston’s The Post Oak Hotel; he served as Executive Restaurants Chef at the latter, the Bayou City’s only AAA 5-Diamond Resort. As executive chef at Local Group Brewing, Samosa will put his hospitality-driven spirit and professional background to work redefining the brewpub experience with thoughtful, approachable, creative eats made with locally-sourced ingredients.
We look forward to visiting with Wolfe, Donewar and Steeves and diving deep into their vision for contributing to and collaborating with the local, regional and national craft beer scene. Word is we will could be the first media outlet to try their Horchatanita (3.9% ABV • Cinnamon lactose blonde ale reminiscent of horchata, the Mexican sweet milky refreshing summer drink) and Double Slammin IPA (8.4% ABV • An Imperial IPA was brewed with Mosaic, Citra and El Dorado -> Easy drinking with some time on this beer softening the bitterness). We also are led to believe the topic of Human Spaceflight might come up as well and who are we to pass on that, especially as the largest gathering of astronauts and cosmonauts in history have come together this week right next door to our studio for the Association of Space Explorers' (ASE) Planetary Congress XXXII (only the fifth time in history it is held within the United States) this week at the Johnson Space Center and Space Center Houston.
And if time allows, we plan to put our guests to the test with our world-famous, on-topic audio quiz and tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and events thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine including our favorite event of the year, the Wings Over Houston Airshow. Note: The Thunderbirds are scheduled to enter local airspace at 3pm and our team will be there at Ellington Airport for a report and preview tonight. As always , a ton of great musical acts will be taking to area stages this weekend stating tonight when the Dutch symphonic metal band Delain, Finnish heavy metal band Amorphis and former The Gathering lead singer/songwriter Anneke van Giersbergen combine for a special international performance just down the street from the studio at Scout immediately following our show. The Karavan to the Keys Kickoff Weekend brings a full lineup of trop rock to T-bone TOm’s this weekend with the Kelly McGuire Band (plus Dennis McCaughey & Bewn Reyna) on Friday, October 18 and Jerry Diaz & Hanna’s Reef (plus Bama Breeze Sounds, Joel Block and Donny Brewer) on Saturday, October 19. And don’t forget Already Gone (Eagles Tribute), one of the top rated Tribute Bands in Texas, takes the stage Saturday night at Jackie’s Brickhouse. Make sure to read the feature about Already Gone and find out what else is going on this weekend in the current (October 2019) issue of The SCENe Magazine.
Did we mention there would be beer? Thirsty yet? Then grab a drink and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! The show is available live at www.vinyldraughtradio.com, on the iHeartRadio app, Spotify, the TuneIn app, the Player FM app, the Live 365 app and NEWSFLASH: THE BRAND NEW VINYL DRAUGHT RADIO APP AVAILABLE NOW in both the ITUNES and GOOGLE PLAY stores (we told you it was coming). Episodes are also available after the fact on iTunes, Google Play and SoundCloud. Cheers from your hosts the Discovery Channel’s “Galactic Guys” (John Ennis and Mighty Michael Taylor). Special thanks to the tallest fella in radio (that we know), the great Greg Meisinger at the controls and keeping us on the air and sounding good. We also appreciate all of those helping behind the scenes at the station, the many networks that carry us and beyond. Just two weeks away from its three-day “Anniversary 4 Celebration” extravaganza March 6-8, Bakfish Brewing has been making a lot of noise in recent months with releasing as many or more new beers than any brewery on the scene. From last week’s ALL DAT GLITTERS King Cake Glitter Cream Ale to a new series of Milkshake IPAs (Moo-nicorn Orange & Raspberry, Moo-nicorn Banana Strawberry, etc.), a 10+% LeRoy Brown Ale, Lima Time Lager, Mango Peach Smoothie beer and series of kettle sours (Fish Face w/Raspberry and Ocean Water) among other releases, our calculations show the team at Bakfish have been averaging far better than a new beer a week since the calendar hit 2020. And there is no limit to the special events taking place at the Bakfish taproom from Girl Scout Cookie & Craft Beer Pairings to Murder Mystery Dinners to Pitmaster Classes to Books @ Bakfish events for kids to Home Brew Meet Ups to Star Wars Nights to Bakfish Running Club Social Runs and much more, it seems there are aways activities to compliment the new beers in the popular tap room. So we look forward to sitting down with the crew to get the scoop on how our brothers in brew with one of the largest brew house capacities and onsite taprooms in the region sees the future, what they have learned from the past and how they have pivoted to positioned themselves in the short term and beyond. We are really looking forward to it and if time allows, we will tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and space thanks to our friends at the SCENE Magazine including the Battle of the Bands Prelims #1 at the area’s newest music venue, the Yard at Barge 295, an ambitious new development and expansion for Texas’ only floating tavern, Barge 295, complete with full service bar, a giant stage over looking the lake, sand volleyball and corn hole courts and more. Plus, rumor past GCPH guest Joe Serrento and his band InDaSkies will be among the bands competing Saturday.
Also on Saturday down the street from our studio at Scout Bar, national act The Aggrolites is headlining a huge show with special guests Los Skarnales, The Skatastrophics, Heights Funk Collective & Vato Ruido Sound System. Thirsty yet? Then grab a brew and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7:30pm!! Tonight’s remote show will be streamed live at https://www.spreaker.com/show/galacticcoastpowerhour. The show will also be available on a range of networks, apps and platforms including Vinyl Draught Radio, iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn, Player FM, Live 365, iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spreaker, Google Play, SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Cashbox, Deezer and Podcast Addict among others. Special thanks to the growing crew at The SCENE Magazine for supporting and streaming our show live as part of their expansion and for the development of our soon to be released Galactic Coast Power Hour mobile app for both IOS/Apple and Google/Android devices providing the easiest way to listen to us LIVE yet.
Joining us tonight for a special Christmas themed show will be the heavy metal, original songwriting acoustic duo Two-Fifths. Huge in Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and all areas where stouts and porters are consumed in mass, Two-Fifths specializes in speed acoustic riffs, subtle harmonies and satirical lyrics. Standout singles include “Wake Up The Gimp,” “Flogging Molly” and "Zuckerberg's Revenge" among others. Fans of the GCPH will recognize one half of Two Fifths as our very own Mighty Mike Taylor (micheal taylor) teams up with geologist by day/rocker by night Brad Johnson to form this one-of-a-kind traveling musical tribute to beer. Along with the music, we will dive deep into some talk and sampling of Christmas/Holiday Seasonal Brews. As always, we will put our guests to the test with our signature, on-topic, super-special audio quiz (hint: Classic Christmas Movies). Rumor has it we will do a head-to-head taste test comparing a 2013 Saint Arnold Brewing Christmas Ale with a current (2018) one. And if everyone did their ‘homework,’ there will be even more Christmas cheer and activities for this very special episode. Did we mention there will be beer? Thirsty yet? So no in-studio sharing of microphones tonight. Plus he left some beer in the studio fridge and we didn’t feel right drinking it without him. Returning to studio tonight for Episode 21 — yep we are of drinking age now — is the Beer Ninja Chris Spradley. Spradley is a brewer and KegID account manager with SLG Keg Pros where he travels the country drinking beer — oops — make that helping breweries with their keg logistics. But most in Houston likely know him best as the former co-host of the What’s On Tap radio show or the host/creator of the Destination Beer TV show. He was a craft beer writer in California back before most in Texas knew what craft beer was. He is also an author, an air force veteran, the former president of Craft Beer Consultants, LLC and the beer evangelist responsible for expanding the reach of Rahr & Sons into the Houston, Galveston and Beaumont markets years ago. So we will dive deep into many craft beer topics including breaking news that another major out-of-state brewery is pulling out of Texas, a popular Austin-area brewery is selling their entire operation turn-key and much more. We have local breweries releasing new offerings today, an update on a local waterfront beer festival scheduled for this weekend that has been rescheduled due to threatening weather, a preview of the weekend Live Music Calendar (Pick of the week is national act ZEPPARELLA- THE ALL FEMALE ZEPPELIN POWERHOUSE Saturday at Scout Bar. Also live music at the Railean Distery and Buccaneer Bar on both Friday and Saturday). There will be a audio quiz and if time allows there will be another edition of the Galactic Coast Challenge where we will see if brewers still keep the exclusive edge over astronauts, aquanauts, aviators and American Ninja Warriors. Plus possibly, but unlikely, we will have time for a segment on vacation beers as GCPH hosts report their research of local IPAs during recent East and West Coast excursions. Rumor is Spradley might be bring an NEIPA actually brewed in New England. Did we mention there will be beer? Thirsty yet? Then grab a brew and tune in at 7pm!! The Houston/Spring Branch-based 4J Brewing Company opened this past March and is the only 100% FEMALE OWNED / 100% FEMALE BREWER brewery we are aware of. Jennifer is the youngest of four sisters (Jessica, Jackie, Joanna, and Jennifer) which gives you an idea of where the name “4J” came from. We look forward to digging deep into the 4J story and discussing all of the challenges to opening and operating a brewery and what is next and possibly further down the road and we likely might even touch on the state of brewery laws in Texas. On that note, we will discuss the upcoming 2019 Houston’s Hottest Brewers Calendar, benefitting the Texas CraftPac, Release Party (Brewers Calendar Release Party) at @Saint Arnold Brewing Compay’s new Beer Garden in early December (Tuesday Dec, 11) . Note: Jennifer is one of the Hottest Brewer calendar models. We might touch on other news in the world of brews, including the Sierra Nevada Brewing’s Butte County Proud IPA fundraiser beer to support Camp Fire relief efforts with 100% of sales will be donated to Camp Fire relief and 1000s of other breweries across the nation — including many in Texas and Houston — joining in to brew a version of the beer for relief efforts. We also will put Jennifer to the test with our signature, on-topic, super-special audio quiz. A show so big with so many guests and moving parts that it will spill out of the ACU of Texas Radio Studio and into the Galactic Coast Green Room, the SCENE Magazine Streaming Studio and the Redfish Inspections Class Room and auditorium. The scheduled and much anticipated topic of tonight’s show will be ‘Bottle Shares’ and to dig deep into that topic we are pumped to have key Administrators, Moderators, Visual Storytellers, Conversation Starters, Rising Stars and winners of the coveted “Beer Taster of the Week” from Houston’s most active and fasted growing beer-related social media group, Beer Tasting Houston. Not only will we be broadcasting a content-heavy live show, but we will be hosting a Bottle Share simultaneously and plan to set a new Vinyl Draught Radio record for the most individual on-air appearances during a single program. But that is not all we have in store tonight. Because we like to break news and have a record of being first with in-depth analysis on new beer releases and huge stories overall in beer, space and beyond, tonight we will also have the first ever “Showdown Of ULTRAS.” Yes, tonight less than 22 hours after Back Pew brewing made a game-changing announcement on social media about their yet-to-be released new Back Pew ULTRA (“All-day barbecues. Lazy days at the lake and pool. It’s almost time for summer adventures, and we have the perfect companion. Meet Back Pew Ultra, the newest member of our beer family and what we like to call the true Texas ultra light. Bonus: it has just 95 calories, 2.6 grams of carbs, and 4.2% ABV. We can’t wait for you to try it.”), we will have some in studio and perform the first ever comparison on the air between the two ULTRAS, Back Pews and Michelob Ultra. Reminder, Michelob Ultra has been named “the most important American Beer Since Bud Light” and enjoyed a sales growth of 23.6 percent to $1.6 billion in 2017 (most recent numbers available). So such a challenge from any brewery, let alone one of the region’s most popular craft breweries is huge news. Special thanks to past Galactic Coast Power Hour guest and new Back Pew Brewing team member Jonathon Pena for allowing our show the first in-depth look at and testing of this exciting new game-changing craft beer. If time allows, we will put our guests to the test with our signature, super-special, audio quiz and tease some of what is on tap this weekend. Did we mention there will be beer? Thirsty yet? Then grab a brew and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! Episodes are also available after the fact on YouTube, iTunes, Google Play and SoundCloud. Cheers from you hosts the Discovery Channel’s Galactic Guys (John Ennis and Mighty Michael Taylor) and Houston’s top craft-beer-related influencer/blogger and president of Houston Girls Pints Out Sylvia the Beer Fed Mother. Joining us LIVE in studio at 7pm for tonight’s craft beer-powered conversation will be Third Coast Grappling Championships President & Matchmaker Ryan McGuire and Master of Ceremonies (MC) Oliver Long. Regular listeners of our show may remember we first had McGuire, a proud Army veteran, on the GCPH with co-founder and West Point product Zach Marshall just two days prior to Third Coast’s first (and jam-packed, sold out) show roughly a year ago. Many successful, sold-out shows and a lot of national attention has followed since and we decided it was time to have the 3GC fellas back as the promotion appears to be primed for a year of growth and expansion in 2020 that will “shake the game up from head to toe,” including rumors of hosting Third Coast shows on the West Coast, East Coast and even across the pond in the United Kingdom. Topics likely to come up include the first 3CG Kids event which was a sold out success last month at Scout Bar, the national-headline creating Bo Nickel vs Gordan Ryan 3GC Super Fight late last year and the upcoming Third Coast Grappling Championship IV featuring Gordon Ryan verse Patrick Gaudio at the top off a loaded card on Saturday, March 14 at Warehouse Live. And in the final segment, after our guests are two or three brews deep and now that the dust has settled and everything is resolved, we plan to get the scoop on rumors of a multi-million dollar lawsuit a heavyweight media conglomerate in the live sports streaming segment, apparently fearful of losing its monopoly, filed against 3CG when the less-than-a-year-old promotion started work on their own independent streaming service to remove the middle man between the action and the fans. And I’m sure we will talk about the overall fight world in general including this weekend’s activities just up the road at the Toyota Center. If you can’t get to the Toyota Center Saturday night, we strongly suggest joining the UFC 247 watch party just down the street from the studio at Bonez Draught House (event info in the comments). And if time allows, we plan to tease even more of what is on tap this weekend thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine including the 20th Annual Krewes Into Kemah Mardi Gras parade Sunday, February 9 at noon (rumor is one of the Galactic Guys will be among the parade judges) and followed by the annual Mardi Party at T-bone Tom’s (event info in the comments). And if the UFC isn’t your jam, also on Saturday night VHT, a Van Halen tribute, and Double Vision, a Foreigner tribute, will rock the crowd at the GCPH-endorsed venue, Jackie’s Brickhouse. Thirsty yet? Then grab a drink and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! The show is broadcast live on VinylDraught Radio at www.vinyldraughtlive.com and also available on a range of networks, apps and platforms including iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn, Player FM, Live 365, iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spreaker, Google Play, SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, Cashbox, Deezer and Podcast Addict among others. While his Facebook feed displays evidence of private flights with clients/friends Mike Tyson and Pete Rose, attending galas with Houston’s Legendary 34s (Hakeem Olajuwon, Earl Campbell and Nolan Ryan) and even hanging in a smoke-filled room with Snoop Dog, the humble and honorable Fiterman doesn’t brag nor boast like many with a fraction of his experiences could and has built and grown a very unique business on his personal reputation and the relationships that result. We look forward to discussing the evolution of Fiterman Sports from the start, to opening a showcase store in Baybrook Mall’s expansion back 2016 and some of the awesome appearances and promotions since. But tonight’s show is also about the immediate future as Fiterman is bringing a star-studded lineup to Pasadena this weekend for his biggest promotion yet, a one-of-a-kind, 3-day autograph, memorabilia and collectors convention appropriately named the Autograph Show of Texas. The list of celebrities scheduled to attend span across the spectrum of professional wrestling (Million Dollar Man / Randy Orton / Roman Reigns), TV/Movies (Jaleel White "Steve Urkel" / Mario Lopez “AC Slater” / Mark-Paul Gosselaar “Zach Morris” / Ralph Macho “Daniel LaRusso / Sandlot Crew - All Six Members), UFC Icons (Randy Couture / Matt Hughes), Basketball (Clyde Drexler / Rudy Tomjanovich / Dennis Rodman), Football (Lawrence Taylor / Ricky Williams / Vince Young), and the first and possibly only appearance of Houston’s Legendary 34s (Hakeem Olajuwon, Earl Campbell and Nolan Ryan) all together for one of a kind combo photo and autograph opportunities. And I’m sure we will discuss some of the autograph inscription opportunities at this weekend’s show including “Sorry I Bet on Baseball” from Pete Rose, “Don't Mess With Texas” from Nolan Ryan “Crain Kick!” from Ralph Macchio/Daniel LaRusso, “Bad Mother F**ker” from Lawrence Taylor” or a marijuana-related inscription from Ricky Williams. If time allows, we plan to tease even more of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and events thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine including the highly regarded TEXAS FLOOD- A TRIBUTE TO STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN AND THE BLUES just down the street from the studio at Scout Bar on Saturday (1/25) or GCPH-favorite the Blaggards tomorrow night (Friday 1/24) at Kemah’s world famous T-bone Tom’s. We are also very curious about Church Of Cash, considered the best Johnny Cash Tribute show on planet Earth, tomorrow (1/24) night at Jackie’s Brickhouse. And don’t forget the annual NASA Go Texan Fashion Show & Luncheon tomorrow (1/24) afternoon at one of our favorite venues, the Lone Star Flight Museum. Thirsty yet? Huge all over globe from Luxembourg and Liechtenstein to League City and LaMarque and all areas in-between, this dynamic musical duo specializes in speed acoustic riffs, subtle harmonies, satirical lyrics and will take the stage this Saturday (Feb. 15) at @ronnie’s Hog Heaven for a live music extravaganza alongside fellow original bands @brightwire, @Grifter & Shills and @when particles collide. Standout Two-Fifths singles include “Wake Up The Gimp,” “Flogging Molly” and "Zuckerberg's Revenge" and fans of the Galactic Coast Power Hour might recognize one half of Two Fifths as our very own Mighty Mike Taylor (micheal taylor), who teams up with rock guy (geologist) by day and rocker by night Big Brad Johnson to from this one-of-a-kind traveling musical tribute to beer. True, we have been blessed to have Two-Fifths on the show before but security concerns at the radio station from the overwhelming crowds during previous appearances have forced us to more this interview and live concert to an undisclosed location and stage. But goods news, as this show will be commercial free, not time restricted and rumor is Two Fifths has been working on some new material for their upcoming show at the eccentric @notsuoh performance space on Houston’s Main street along side Arcana Kings and Black Kryptonite.
In between and during songs we will drink (and talk) beer, including discussing news in the local, state and national beer scene and highlighting some new beer releases starting with Bakfish Brewing’s ALL DAT GLITTERS
King Cake Cream Ale which just hit the taps minutes ago (at 5pm). Programming note: We will be visiting with Bakfish Brewing next week on the Galactic Coast Power Hour, likely for another remote, live, on location episode.
If time allows, we will tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and space thanks to our friends at the SCENE Magazine including the Grand Opening of "The Texas Room" at Saloon Door Brewing (Saturday, Feb. 15), Fetching Lab’s 5 Year Anniversary Party featuring the release of seven new beers (also Saturday, Feb. 15) and the 2020 Chili Cook-Off which unfortunately will be the last event before our brothers in brew at @Texas Beer Refinery shut down permanently (also, also on Saturday, Feb 15). Thirsty yet? Then grab a brew and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! Tonight’s special show will be streamed live (video) here on our Facebook page and in audio at https://www.spreaker.com/show/galacticcoastpowerhour for those who prefer not to see what they are listening to.
But tonight we pivot back to our roots and do more than drink craft beer during the show, but dive deep into conversation about it. And joining us to do that and more is the lead brewer at Galveston Island’s Beerfoot Brewery and overall craft beer fanatic Donavan Howard who will be bringing some of his newest Beerfoot releases including an Espresso Fudge Brownie Imperial Stout named Boom Choco Latte. But don’t get too jealous as Boom Choco Latte and Howard’s Strata IPA will be representing Beerfoot Brewery and available at the 11th Annual Yaga's Chili Quest & Beer Fest taking place this Saturday, January 18 in Galveston. And with Howard’s help, we plan to preview everything happening on the island during the Chili Quest & Beer Fest starting with the 2020 Beerfooter 5K Fun Run early Saturday morning. Another event on Saturday close to the Galactic Guys’ heart is the One Year Anniversary Party for The Backyard Seabrook (January 18, Noon to 11pm). Located just a stone’s throw from Galveston Bay, The Backyard offers a combination of creative comfort food, a carefully curated selection of craft beer on draft, an extensive wine list and casual dining inside and out. Matter of fact, in less than a year of operation The Backyard has gained a lot of traction from the national press including just recently being recognized by MSN for having the Best Mac ’N’ Cheese in Texas! Owner Jared Klein, previously of Nobi Pub, is an honorary Galactic Guy and we look forward to seeing everyone out at the anniversary celebration Saturday. Make sure to read the cover story in the January 2020 edition of The SCENE Magazine for many more reasons to check out The Backyard and everything else happening this month in and around the Home Of Human Spaceflight and the Waterfront Capital Of Texas. In addition to new releases at Beerfoot, we want to give a shout out to our brothers in brew at Bakfish Brewing who have rocketed out of the gates in 2020 with all kinds of new releases including a “Moo-nicorn Banana Strawberry Milkshake IPA” and “LOTUS POD Session IPA” just released minutes ago on top of the 10+% “Leroy Brown Ale” released yesterday and the “Mango Peach Smoothie beer” released on Tuesday. And that is following releases of “Fish Face w/Raspberry” (1st in a series of kettle sours), “Ocean Water” (2nd in a series of kettle sours) and “Lima Time” (Lager with lime) released at Bakfish last week. We are in conversations and will be having Bakfish back on the show very soon as we determine if it will be in the studio or a mobile show at the brewery. As always, we plan to tease even more of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and events thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine including a special concert tonight immediately following our show just down the street from the studio at Scout Bar in honor of friend of the show and Punkstar Radio host Khris Harding’s birthday and featuring Fear The light and Hireath and Anora. If you can’t get out tonight, make sure to check out The SCENE Magazine for all of the options this weekend including Wood & wind (Friday) and the Spicolis (Saturday) at Kemah’s T-bone Tom’s; Mr Wonderful (Friday) and Sol Flair (Saturday) at Jackie’s Brickhouse; Doug Strahan and the Good Neighbors (Friday) and the Paul Ramirez Band (Saturday) at Katie’s Bar; The Spazmatics (Friday) and The Dope Show/Marilyn Manson Tribute & Mr Self Destruct/NIN Tribute (Saturday) at Scout Bar. And if time allows we might go Sports Radio for a segment with Howard, an extreme Astros and Texans fan/aspiring sports radio talk show host, for a discussion on recent events pertaining to the Houston professional sports landscape.
Thirsty yet? Last week the show 'jibed' heavily towards sailing talk including where he got his passion for the water and background in sailing regatta competitions, the differences between to sailing scenes in Houston/Clear Lake/Galveston and San Fransisco (and elsewhere) swell as finishing and preparing an unfinished 50-foot, 55-year-old trimaran never to touch water for a complete circumnavigation of the planet, assuming it is round, and musical tour. Tonight Marc returns, guitar in hand, for a deeper dive into his music career past, present, future. We might also discuss his years of touring in more detail including “Guitar Strings & Sailboat Things,” the one-of-a-kind album recorded on a 26-foot sailboat, 300-mile tour by boat (playing 33 shows in 38 days along the Gulf Coast) and special-edition book (CD included). Kelly Railean is a true Texas — actually American — Alcohol Pioneer. She is a Master Distiller who opened not only the first women-owned, certified "Made in USA" distillery, but the first to produce Handcrafted American Rum and Agave Products to be certified as Made In USA no matter the owner’s gender. In 2005 she launched the first distillery in the entire Houston/Galveston region and basically re-ignited the American rum industry in the USA and spear-headed the concept of manufacturing specialty, small, handcrafted batches utilizing Grade-A ingredients to compete with the mass-produced spirits companies monopolizing the market. But in addition to leading the American Run Revolution, she pioneered a new category of American spirit made from 100% Blue Agave which rival Mexico's finest tequilas. But the Railean Distillery is not limited to Rum nor Agave and we will dive deep into the growing Railean product line that now covers almost every segment of the liquor business. As a pioneer, Railean was a regular in Austin fighting, lobbying and eventually helping rewrite the Texas liquor laws and regulations. I’ve personally seen the evolution where she was legally unable to give a sample, host a tasting or sell a bottle to go during her early distillery tours to eventually building (from the ground up) and opening the impressive Buccaneer Bar, which includes a craft cocktail bar, tasting room, retail store, gift shop and live music venue and is celebrating 4 years with a huge pirate-themed party on Saturday, August 4. We look forward to joining you at 7pm tonight and we are now, starting last week, available live on iHeart Radio and Spotify in addition to the other mediums and platforms (YouTube Live, www.vinyldraughtradio.com, TuneIn, Player FM, iTunes, Google Play and SoundCloud, etc.) - John Ennis, host of the Galactic Coast Power Hour

<itunes:author>The SCENE Magazine</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>Episode XVI - AMERICAN ALCOHOL PIONEER: Before launching this show we had a few names at the top of our rather long list of guests to target and we are excited that today we get to visit live, in-studio with one of them. We really look forward to asking Harl how someone graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in engineering science (Trinity University), a masters of business administration and doctorate in chemical & bimolecular engineering (both from Vanderbilt University) ended up brewing German-style beers in an old Texas church. We will also discuss what is new at Back Pew and will likely touch on current TABC laws and the efforts to change them. In addition to putting our guest to the test with our signature, on-topic, super-special audio quiz, we have a special taste test quiz for Harl, who up to now has remained strong when other breweries have caved to the pressure from the current Haze Craze (NEIPA style) that has invaded the “Juiceton,” we mean “Houston,” brewery scene.
We will preview the upcoming Weekend Live Music Calendar (Pick of the weekend could be our own Two Fifths live and in concert tomorrow night at Vallensons Brewery for the Bay Area Mastronaurts weekly F.A.R.T.
(Friday Afternoon Revival Time).
Did we mention there will be beer? Thirsty yet? Then grab a brew and tune to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! The show is available live on YouTube, www.vinyldraughtradio.com, iHeartRadio, Spotify, the TuneIn app, the Player FM app and the Live 365 app. NEW DEVELOPMENT ALERT: Android users can now download the Vinyl Draught Radio app from the Google Play store (Apple IOS Version awaiting approval and coming soon). All episodes are also available on iTunes, Google Play and SoundCloud. Perez is a songwriter who enjoys writing about High Vibes, positive change through action, manifestation and choosing to be someone under any circumstances. She also puts this practice into daily life. From the clothes she wears, to the food she eats, to the places she likes to play, Sherita is focused on supporting values such as depolarization, sustainability, community and conscious capitalism. Sherita's journey has been full of hard ship and struggle which has led to much pain. Instead of letting the pain destroy her, she converts this pain into healing and High Vibes songs. A diverse singer who is comfortable performing solo and fronting full bands, including her once popular band ‘Fear the Poet’ where she first caught the Galactic Guys attention while touring Houston many years ago, Perez has been honored by many major magazines, recorded with famed producers (Chris “Frenchie” Smith and Josh Applebee among them), appeared on major market radio stations across the country and delighted audiences at festivals and venues across the planet (including New York’s legendary CBGB’s before it closed). She will be joining us live and in studio tonight before launching her album release party (Sherita Perez Album release party) and North American tour which will take her from Houston (Texas) to Humboldt (California). Please join us as she discusses her new album, her recent tour and plays some new songs and older favorites. She will also share information she has learned along the way about life and the state of hemp and cannabis right now. We may also discuss a (to be announced) cannabis documentary that will be released next year among other exciting topics. It should be a blast!! And if time allows, we plan to put our guest to the test with our world-famous, on-topic audio quiz and tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and events thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine. Two featured events this upcoming weekend include the Clear Lake Creek Festival (Friday, Sept 13 to Sunday, Sept 15 at Clear Lake Park’s Landolt Pavilion) and the Kemah Craft Beer Festival on the Kemah Boardwalk (Saturday, Sept 14). Key musical shows of note this weekend range from an appearance of the Austin-based Jonace Lewerance band tonight at T-bone Toms to Houston favorite The Slags on Saturday (September 14) at Jackie’s Brickhouse to International Recording Artist PJ Sin Suela taking the stage just down the street from our studio at Scout Bar (Sunday, September 15) as part of his Official USA Tour. Of course we also recommend starting your Sunday Funday with the talented duo of Chris Hardy & Matt Cash, 3-7pm Downstairs on the Patio over looking the lake at Cabo Clear Lake (Sunday, September 15: ). Did we mention there would be beer? Thirsty yet? Then grab a drink and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! Together these four talented musicians and self-described fans of brew make up the popular Reggae/Fusion/Rock group Ojos Rojos. Davlin, who is a true gamer coming into studio on almost no notice, is owner of JetSurf Houston, a Certified Jet Surf Trainer and a competitor on the MotoSurf WorldCup international circuit. Although the Galactic Coast Power Hour was among the first media outlets to introduce this new (to America and Texas), cutting edge watersport to the local public, Davlin has achieved a lot of attention in the Houston TV market in recent months as word about extreme but economical and environmentally friendly watersport is getting out. Davlin has trained riders from all over (even Europe) to get up on a JetSurf board in local waters and we really look forward to talking to him about that, future races and events locally and a lot more on the local water sports scene. We might even touch on the largest port to port race in North America, the 33rd Annual Harvest Moon Regatta, which is locally organized and just started today in the Gulf along the shores of Galveston Island. To quote the great music columnist, photographer, audio engineer (and rocket scientist) Andy Eng, Matt Cash doesn't simply play a tune but "lives in the story’s moment as its played. The Galactic Guys don’t believe so. Tonight, live in studio we are honored to have US Air Force (Retired) Lieutenant General Douglas H. Owens back on the show. General Owens, a decorated combat pilot with more than 3,100 flight hours, retired from the United States Air Force in 2013 after more than 33 years of military service and is a father of two sons who continue to serve today. During his time in the Air Force, General Owens served in numerous flying, staff and leadership positions, including tours as Vice Commander of Pacific Air Forces and as Vice Commander of Air Force Air Education and Training Command. In 2016 General Owens was named Chief Executive Officer of the Lone Star Flight Museum where he lead the strategic planning, construction and the ongoing success of the new $35 million aviation history and STEM museum that recently celebrated its second year at Houston’s Ellington Airport after relocating from Galveston Island. We believe the Lone Star Flight Museum is a true Houston and Texas treasure and strongly recommend every one check it out. And if you are waiting for the right call-to-action to visit (or return to) the museum, we believe it is this Saturday (November 16 • 2 to 6pm) for the second annual Hangar Bash. Guests to this year’s Hangar Bash will be treated to world-class championship BBQ, a variety of craft beer from Houston’s best breweries (Note: GCPH favorite Saint Arnold Brewing Company is a sponsor), live music from Molly & The Ringwalds, tours of the museum’s historic aircraft collection, raffles to win warbird rides and 1st Class roundtrip tickets on United Airlines, a photo booth, giant Jenga, giant Connect 4, cornhole, flight simulators, exhibits and much more. We plan to preview the Hangar Bash in detail with the general and also learn more about the what we argue is the greatest attraction to land along the Galactic Coast and Home of Human Spaceflight this century, the Lone Star Flight Museum.
And if time allows, we plan to put our guest to the test with our world-famous, on-topic audio quiz. If you remember from last year, General Owens did an amazing job identifying historic military aircraft from audio clips (with a couple timely clues). We also plan to tease what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and events thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine. Did we mention there would be beer? Thirsty yet? Then grab a drink and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! "The Ocean is my Playground. Music is my Passion,” according to the Trinidad & Tobago-born Borde’ whose interest in sailing was sparked after a two-week Caribbean island-hopping adventure at age 13. He quickly picked up as much sailing knowledge and experience as possible and before long was winning regattas, took first place in his Texas youth racing circuit, and was competing nationally on various single-handed racing dinghies. But his plans of one day sailing in the Olympics shifted toward a career in music as he reached young-adulthood. Most recently, Borde toured the country many times over as the front man and namesake of his Reggae/Folk group “That Captain” creating fun, original, dance music with a signature style that “blends reggae, bluegrass and jammy flavors.” Borde has been writing and performing music for years with super popular bands such as “Shark Attack” and “Cassette Tape.” In 2011, he formed a three-person all-star band appropriately named “The Crew” which recorded an album on a 26-foot sailboat before touring 300-miles off the Texas coast on that same boat playing 33 shows in 38 days. Borde authored a special-edition book (CD included) about this one-of-a-kind tour by only boat and bicycles named “Guitar Strings & Sailboat Things” which sold out three press runs. There is a rumor a collector's edition coffee table book version is in the works. Most recently, Borde has been based along the Northern California coast in Humboldt Bay where he has been completing construction of a 55-year-old, 50-foot trimaran that until last year had never touched water for an even more ambitious music tour of the entire planet Earth by boat. Plans for another book and to have this tour televised worldwide are already in motion. Borde is full of experiences from one day hearing his song prominently in a Hollywood movie without his knowledge, to completing a musical tour by sailboat, to being given a basically abandoned unfinished 50-foot trimaran from a French singer following a chance encounter and getting it seaworthy. There is enough content to cover for at least six episodes of the Galactic Coast Power Hour. Plus, rumor is Borde will be bringing his guitar to perform a few songs. And if time allows, which it likely will not, we plan to tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and events thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine including the Vanilla Sugar Album release party with Brainchild, Downfall 2012 and Anora down the street form the studio tomorrow (1/3/2020) evening at Scout Bar and the Texas Flood show Saturday (2/4/2020) at Jackie’s Brickhouse among others. So tonight is the night for the much anticipated appearance of this hardworking Texas Songwriter with a deep voice and even deeper lyrics. From his time with the notorious bad boys of Houston, Erase The Virus (ETV) known for their outlandish stage show and lifestyle, to fronting his own band of all star performers to sharing his gift during thousands of solo performances at (seemingly) ever stage from Minute Maid Park to Galveston (including every brewery and most venues in between) to spearheading the “Will Play For Food” charity concert series and CD releases benefitting the Houston and Galveston Food Banks, there is no doubting Hardy’s talent, drive and Heart. Listen in as we dig into many topics including influences, songwriting, performing, collaborations, touring, recording, promoting and much more with the fella our first Singer/Songwriter/Storyteller Showcase series guest Matt Cash called “the most talented songwriter I know.” If we are lucky, Hardy might even play a couple tunes for us.
And if time allows, we plan to put our guest to the test with our world-famous, on-topic audio quiz and tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and events thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine. We likely will also discuss some break beer news and highlight some upcoming new beer releases from GCPH guests including Saloon Door, Baa Babb Brewhouse, Fetching Lab and Holler Brewing Co. among others. Thirsty yet? Then grab a drink and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! The show is available live on VinylDraught Radio at www.vinyldraughtlive.com and on the iHeartRadio app, Spotify, the TuneIn app, the Player FM app and the Live 365 app among other apps and networks. Episodes are also available after the fact on iTunes, Google Play and SoundCloud. Cheers from your hosts the Discovery Channel’s “Galactic Guys” (John Ennis and Mighty Michael Taylor). Special thanks to our bearded buddy Teagan behind the glass and at the controls and keeping us on the air and sounding good. We also appreciate all of those helping behind the scenes at the station, the many networks that carry us and beyond. Located where League City, Kemah, Texas City, Dickinson, Bacliff and San Leon “touch,” Galveston Bay Beer Company is experiencing very exciting times with a theme of expansion, growth, enhanced creativity and freedom. In a very short time, the new ownership has made major investments including the hiring of new team members (including an entire sales staff of well-known industry veterans), purchasing new equipment (from a beautiful new pilot brew system to additional fermentation tanks to the addition of an impressive yeast laboratory setup) and triggering many physical upgrades at the brewery and tap room (inside and out). Possibly most importantly, they got out of a distribution deal that proved to be a serious limitation in recent years. But that is only the beginning as the team at Galveston Bay Beer Company has a lot more planned and is poised and positioned to have a huge 2020. Cheers!! NOTE: This on-location show was recorded (audio/video) using SCENEstream mobile production equipment thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine.
