Deitre Collins participated and competed in a range of sports before settling on volleyball when she started because she was offered an opportunity as an athlete who was trained to become a volleyball player. This took her took her to the University of Hawaii where she flourished in the midst of diversity, great coaching, a supportive community, being recognized as a 3x All American, winning national championships becoming a pro volleyball player and on to the Olympics. She speaks about her ability to play a role and how she responded to the advice and challenge that gave her the boost to start on the Olympic team. Deitre shares what she learned form injuries she incurred and is gleeful about never experiencing burn out, stepping into head coaching positions at three institutions over several decades, and what she missed. The 1983 Honda Cup winner and NCAA Silver Anniversary winner urges participants to simply be the best they can be, regardless the level of competition.
