I am convinced that a healthy pressurized hermeneutic will answer Dr. walls is conundrum of the New Testament teaching on God's love. That is, all of the passage where we read about God's love for those who are lost or those who are perishing must be couched within the historical mill you of Israel's history at that point in time. The love that God has for those who are perishing is directed precisely at those who are going to be objects of his wrath if they do not repent and embrace Jesus Christ within the first century context. So, when Peter says that God is not willing that any perish but that they receive eternal life, that is directed toward the object of his wrath in the first century if they do not embrace God's offer of salvation which is deliverance from the coming wrath against the old covenant system.
