In episode 36, Aalia meets with Jill Gurr to discuss her nonprofit organization, Create Now. As the podcast begins, Gurr explains how she transitioned from an impressive career in script supervising to working on the frontlines with vulnerable children (4:40). Bringing the conversation to current time, Gurr explains the considerable impact that COVID has had on these children (10:50). In the face of this pandemic, Aalia and Gurr have both strove to continue empowering others, and Aalia dives into detail about their recent collaboration and the importance of mentorship (14:00). Create Now is inspiring challenged and often forgotten youth to pursue a college education, and Gurr shares with Aalia one of their greatest success stories (16:39), which couldn’t have happened without the arts (19:50).
