Morris Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania, is the site of this week's unsolved homicide. Betty Jane McClellan, an elderly grandmother, was shot to death inside her home during a home invasion in 2009. She was home with her husband Jake, who was shot twice but survived.

After her divorce in 1976, Betty Jane McClellan moved to western Greene County, a rural area in Pennsylvania with her four children. She had to adjust to being a single parent. Her church and community embraced her. She worked at a local restaurant for nearly twenty years. Patty Friend, whose family owned the restaurant, often referred to Betty as her right hand. Betty worked at the restaurant, in the office, and later managed the restaurant.
Betty's children loved her. She was the ideal mother. She attended all the events her children participated in. Betty devoted herself to her children.

Sadly, her children would lose their mother to a horrific homicide. Jake and Betty Jane McCllellan were at their mobile home on the night of March 22, 2009. Just before 10 p.m., there was a knock at the door. As Jake answered, he saw a white male with shoulder-length brown hair pulled back into a ponytail asking for help with a flat tire. Jacob told him to wait outside. When Jake went to get a jacket, the man barged into his home with a gun and demanded money and guns.

A fight ensued between Jake and the man. During the shooting, Jake was shot twice, once in the cheek, and once in the neck, falling to the ground. Jake heard another gunshot coming from the rear of the mobile home as Betty screamed. Jake panicked and ran outside and hid between two parked cars in the front yard.

As he lies on the ground, he sees a white van slowly approaching his property. Jake saw the shooter run out of the house holding a bag or a pillowcase. The shooter approaches the van driver and they exchange words for about ten seconds before the shooter gets in and the van speeds away. Jake flags down another vehicle to call 911, and when police arrived, they discover Betty dead inside the mobile home. Jake survives after being airlifted to a local hospital. There was also another witness who saw the white van.

For this story, I spoke to Betty's daughter Shelly James about the unsolved murder of her mother Betty Jane McClellan. To report information about Betty Jane McClellan or Noble Wine, please contact Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (8477).
