I talked about second chances on Friday, how life is full of second chances, we just have to be willing to look for them. I saw real live evidence of that over the weekend. My wife’s brother was married to his new wife in our backyard on a beautiful spring day. This is the third marriage for both people. There is no guarantee that the third time will be the charm, but where there is hope and love there is the possibility of success.

Some of you might have watched the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. The winner was Barbaro; his rider, trainer and owner were first time champions at the run for the roses. It also seems that the trainer was a hero a number of years ago when he brought three children out of the crash of a United Airline jet in Iowa. He got his second chance by providing a second chance to others. It often works that way.

Finally, here are what a few famous people have had to say about second chances. Alfred W. Greely said, “We're given second chances every day of our life. We don't usually take them, but they're there for the taking.” Mary Pickford said, “If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down but the staying down.” And Oprah Winfrey said, “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.”
