From Eden, North Carolina, Doug Corum grew up listening to the classic sounds of the 70’s, especially the soulful sounds of Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Doug first took the stage standing on the coffee table in his parents’ living room at three years old, crooning Bob Seger songs like a pro. His mother used to sing as she rocked Doug to sleep as a baby. He learned to play the ukulele at the age of seven and his fascination with music continued to grow.

Saved and baptized at 13 years old, Doug shared, “I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted to be, but I knew I wanted to sing and play music. I had people sneaking me into the clubs and bars at 14 to sing and play,” shared Doug. He took a detour in college and time to settle down as he was growing into adulthood. His relationship with Jesus Christ is what he credits his strength to today, and he is so excited to share it as he ministers wherever the Lord leads him to go. Doug and his wife have two beautiful daughters who are an answer to prayer and a blessing from God through adoption. Their journey as a family is a testimony in and of itself.

“Fifteen years ago, I was chasing my own ambitions. I boarded a plane and headed out to Los Angeles to stay with family, record a demo and see what was out in the world,” said Doug. At a crossroads in his life, Doug decided to leave Los Angeles and return to the humble, country living he had been raised with. Before long, he was Nashville bound, demo in hand, determined to work hard until he established a career in music. “One of my favorite memories from my time in Nashville was having the opportunity to play at the Bluebird Café. I realized quickly just how much talent is in Nashville, and unfortunately, the major record labels appeared to be partial to the pretty ones. I didn’t qualify,” chuckled Doug.

John 3:16 is the verse that Doug carries closest to his heart today, because his mission isn’t just to entertain. Doug has responded to God’s calling by stepping onto the battlefield, dedicating his life to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. The soul cleansing blood of Jesus through the finished work of the cross is the reason he sings… to share that God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son to die on a cross at Calvary to save us. All we have to do is turn away from sin, repent and pray, asking Jesus to become the Savior and Lord of our lives!

When asked who has been influential in Doug’s music ministry, he quickly answered, “Charles Scarlette is such an anointed man of God and has been an incredible inspiration for me. We understand each other and speak the same music language. He has a more difficult story than I have, and he has stayed obedient. He’s walked through things that I am still working through.”

His debut album, “Jesus is with Me” was recorded in 2017 with the collaborative resources of Big Feat Productions in Shelby, NC and Crossroads Studio in Arden, NC. The album’s first single, “The Winds of this World” will be released to radio and is included on the latest Crossroads compilation CD.
