I've read that Jimi was building Electric Ladyland Studios, and it was costing $1M back then, as he just wanted to stay in the studio and make music. Couldn't the cost of the studio and losing income from the live performances have been a motivation for Jeffries offing him and hence, collecting the insurance money to cover his back?
