All that is the veneer to excuse his guilt, his admission of his guilt and the inaction of Congress afterward. North admitted he illegally ran guns to Nicaragua, basically admitted he ran a cocaine smuggling operation and admitted he lied to smear the Sandinistas. And he walked away a hero (oh, and we can thank the press, too).

The testimony, in its entirety, is incredible. But his bold admission is insane. I cannot understand how he wasn't removed from the floor in handcuffs.
