On The Dr Kevin Show: Author Revita Shiri-Horowitz. Her latest book is: It`s Just your imagination – Growing up with a narcissistic mother.

Only at the age of forty-eight I came to learn “what was wrong with me all those years”. My mom came for a couple of weeks to visit my kids, my husband and me, and acted out like she always did, trying to manipulate me to send her to a trip in L.A. I found myself crying for hours, and my husband found a therapist and took me to see her. It only took a few minutes of me talking and her listening, for her to say: “Look, it is not really you, it is your mother… She is a narcissist, and you were raised by a narcissistic mother”. I did not quite understand what she meant, so she gave me a few articles and a couple of books to read and sent me home. It has been a long five years of understanding and healing myself, and during time that I wrote a book called “It`s just your imagination” – something my mom used to tell me whenever I confronted her about a lie she just told, about things I saw she did and she did not like what I had to say.

My book speaks about my process of learning, understanding, mourning the childhood I did not have, and becoming a much stronger person. I promised myself I WILL DO WHATEVER I CAN FROM NOW ON TO HELP OTHERS. My mother was a victim of her mother, she did not become one without an outside influence. I was lucky to be able to break the chain of narcissism in my family. I am more than happy to speak about it, explain what it is, how it feels, and how I overcame growing up with a narcissistic mother.
