For more than 50 years Spiritual Theologian, Episcopal Priest and Activist for Gender Justice and Eco-Justice Matthew Fox, has challenged stale doctrines, called leaders to account, awakened minds, and healed wounded souls through his 40+ plus, which have had nearly 80 translations. He’s also been called “the most creative, the most comprehensive, surely the most challenging religious-spiritual teacher in America” as well as “one of the great prophetic voices of our time.”

Matthew Fox’s radical work, teachings and beliefs led to many conflicts with Catholic authorities, climaxing with his expulsion in 1993 from the Dominican order for “disobedience.” Among the issues Cardinal Ratzinger, later Pope Benedict 16th, objected to were his feminist theology, calling God “Mother,” preferring the concept of original blessing over original sin, not condemning homosexual behavior and teaching the four paths of Creation Spirituality instead of the Church’s classical three paths of purgation, illumination, and union.
