Host Bart Zandbergen was joined in the studio by author and non-profit Founder Lisa Wiehebrink. Lisa writes children’s books that uniquely bridge the connection between people and animals to teach life lessons of kindness, compassion, and empathy. She is also the founder of the non-profit organization, “Tails That Teach”, whose mission is to save animal lives and change the lives of children. The Tails That Teach foundation donates books to elementary schools and animal organizations around the country to enhance community outreach efforts and to encourage literacy among children ages 5-8 years old. Lisa is also the proud founder of National Rescue Dog Day, observed annually on May 20, which recognizes the special bond that comes with rescuing a dog, and also brings awareness to the countless number of dogs waiting to be adopted.
In this episode, learn: -Why it is so important to teach children at an early age the art of compassion -How educating children on compassion can translate into other areas of their lives that shape them into adulthood -How teaching children at an early age how to care for animals leads to healthy humans who care properly for pets -What is in-store for the 3rd Annual National Rescue Dog Day on May 20th, 2020 and how you can get involved.
When Lisa was asked what her ultimate lesson learned has been, she shared that it’s important for adults to foster compassion with children at an early age. She also encouraged listeners to pick up a book and read to children as it truly is becoming a lost art.
