Have you ever known what it was like to have a season in a very dry valley, to come to the exhausted end of yourself, only to turn the corner to find that the Lord has started doing some new thing in your life? The Bible says that the LORD is He that does new things, He makes a way in the wilderness, and commands rivers to come forth in the desert. It is a miracle to experience this in your own life, and an incredible blessing to watch it happen in the life of someone else. There was a widow in Zarephath who was ready to give up and die, in fact, she was in the very process of making one last meal for herself and her son when the LORD sent the prophet Elijah to speak with her. Elijah asked her to give him a morsel of bread, she rightly replied that she had none to spare him. But Elijah persisted, God was getting ready to do a new thing, and when she trusted the word of the LORD, she rejoiced in witnessing a miracle of abundance like she had ever seen before. If we will but trust the LORD’s timing, trust in the LORD’s word, and commit ourselves to the LORD’s ways, He will do a new thing in our lives at exactly the right time.
