How do you do with setting boundaries? Are you able to say “no” when you want to? And how do you communicate your desires?

I am definitely guilty of being passive-aggressive in my communication. Why would I tell my husband I am angry when I could just wash the dishes loudly and slam shut cabinets? Haha. I really agree with my podcast guest this week that meaning what you say and saying what you mean is so respectful, and I know I appreciate receiving more assertive versus passive-aggressive communication.

In this episode of the Wholly a Woman podcast, Dr. Rachel DuPaul teaches us about what boundaries are, how to start setting healthy boundaries, and how to communicate assertively. She reminds us that boundaries are a form of self-respect and that we all benefit when we have them.

Here are the takeaways:
-Mental illness is NOT a choice
-Needing help with your mental health is normal. It means you’re human.
-There are different kinds of boundaries: physical, time, emotional, self, others
-Boundaries are different per person and they can change
-When setting a boundary, ask yourself, what do I want? And what can I give?
-Boundaries that are aligned with you will offer self-respect
-When others have issues with your boundaries, it’s not your fault. It’s because of the ways we are connected and affect one another.
-Assertive communication is honest communication
-Being passive-aggressive is still aggressive! Take the guesswork out of your communication
