What if it was the doctor’s main role to keep people from getting sick? To help their patients be strong? This the perspective of traditional chinese medicine. Instead of focusing on just caring for people when they get sick, this methodology is about keeping people well.

In this week’s episode of the Wholly a Woman podcast, Allie Xu, PharmD, chinese medicine pharmacist practicing in Australia, discusses the chinese medicine approach to health.

Here are the take-aways:
-Both the traditional and the modern have their place - we can’t have one without the other
-If you find yourself feeling unhappy and/or unfulfilled, you have the option to make a different choice
-Chinese medicine focus on our energy balance. Energy is called “chi” and the imbalance of chi leads to illness
-The goal of treatment with Chinese medicine therapies is to regain balance and remove any blockages so that the chi can move freely
-We need a balance - too much OR too little can be harmful
-Chinese medicine involves very individualized work-up and treatments
-The Chinese medicine physician’s job is to keep people from becoming sick. In traditional practice, the village valued and took care of the doctor so they would in turn care for the village
-The purpose of Chinese medicine is empowerment - to strengthen your inner energy or chi
-Celebrate your whole womanhood by repeating “I am enough. I am worthy. I am unique.”
