In this episode, Adrianne welcomes Faith Lynch, a clinical nurse manager, practice leader, a passionate hemodialysis nurse, former chair of the American Nephrology Nurses Association, mother, and wonderful woman to interview. They have a convivial discussion about Faith’s career as a dialysis nurse, discuss what dialysis is, how it affects patients’ lives but most importantly, they discuss a big change Faith catalyzed at her hospital.

During the height of the COVID pandemic in New York City, Faith cites that about 80% of their hospitalized COVID patients were experiencing some form of kidney failure requiring hemodialysis. Enter the Tablo, an HD (hemodialysis) machine the size of a mini-fridge, which Faith had encountered at a convention way before we knew what COVID was or how it would impact us. Faith goes into detail about how this revolutionary machine made a profound impact on nurses ability to provide care to patients, as well as how it reduced the risk to nurses themselves.

Faith also has words of wisdom for nursing students and new nurses who wonder if a career in dialysis is right for them, and how conventions and involvement in professional associations can positively impact your career from the beginning.

This conversation is a great kickoff to Season 7 and is not to be missed.
