Today we discuss something we like to call the social mummy experiment. We start off by defining social, which has to do more with social media, and if you do not have a business online, it’s mainly just social for you. Rosie found that when she cut down on the purely social interactions she had on social media, the house became much more harmonious and the kids were a joy to be around, but she realized she was constantly wondering about it throughout the day. Rosie tells us how she turned off all notifications and was able to stay away for 2 days, but after checking one thing on the third day, It was like she spiraled into a social media pit. As soon as she began interacting with social media again, things seemed to just go wrong and the harmony between Rosie and our children would flounder. She found that if you haven’t been on social media all day, it’s easy to jump in during the evening and be productive because that’s all you have the time for, and you’re energized after putting all your focus on your kids and the tasks at home, having created harmony. If social media needs to be accessed during the day, we tag-team and whoever is going to be using social media goes into another room so that the kids don’t see it. We discuss how much our productivity levels improved when we began this experiment and how it affected the children.

“If you’re getting angry at your kids for their compulsions, then they’re allowed to get angry with you for your compulsions, and your compulsions, which we all have because of our environment now is screen time. Because it’s so freakin addictive and it is such a distraction.” 12:33
