In this episode we have Janet Corrington, who is a counselor, neurofeedback brain trainer, step parent, foster parent, and adoptive parent and we’re going to be talking about the difference between fostering and adopting. She tells us about foster parenting and how the government is often quite involved while you’re taking care of kids. They have a say in how you parent these children in a certain way and it will remain that way until you actually adopt the child, in which case they become a part of your forever family. When working with the foster children, Janet and her spouse try to help them develop if they’ve skipped or didn’t get the opportunity to develop a certain level of growth, such as helping them read, or if they struggle with peeing the bed they’ll help them stop that habit so that when they move on to the next family, they’ll go having learned a little more of how to function in the world.

“I think it’s very difficult for everyone. By that I mean the work itself isn’t difficult and having them live with you, it’s not that kind of difficult that way. It’s difficult in that it pulls at your heart strings and it hurts to feel like they’re going to be gone, so you go through this grieving process and it’s like you’ve lost a child when you’ve gone.” 19:32
