The United States of America had arguably the top Intelligence community in the world for decades. As we all know, the quality of such units' work comes down to how experienced and formidable the leadership performs and runs their respective departments. There was a time when top-notch and highly-skilled veterans of the field were promoted to run the FBI, CIA and related organizations through their own merits and solid backgrounds. During many of the more recent presidential administrations, positions atop some of the most important national security-entrusted organizations have gone to political patrons who have spent their careers as pencil-pushing bureaucrats. Reflecting that, CIA Director William Burns recently patted himself on the back, saying he was "proud" of the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal at a conference in Aspen. The result has been a continued downward spiral in the quality of our intelligence community while administration big-wigs pat themselves on the back about how woke their recruitment ads and equity programs have been.

The London Center for Policy Research takes a deep dive into how we got to this point and what needs to be done to re-solidify our intelligence agencies and restore a high-level of trust in national security in the United States.
