“But we know that people are complicated and have a mixture of flaws and talents and sins. So why do we pretend that we don’t?”
― Jon Ronson, So You've Been Publicly Shamed

Let’s learn more about that concept with our guest Derek Fildebrandt on Agree or Disagree:

Alberta continues to be a fascinating place for politics. Not a day goes by without some sort of controversy. And you cab see that on social media.

My guest today has been a part of that.

When I say the name Derek Fildebrandt, you will get a reaction. Some may have a negative reaction and some may not. He was the centre of a few social media controversies including with Naheed Nanshi, and Mike Morrison.

But he also had some personal ones.

As a matter of fact, it was a year ago this month

On August 9, 2017, various news outlets revealed that Fildebrandt was routinely renting out his taxpayer-funded Edmonton apartment on Airbnb.[49
On August 14, 2017 , it was revealed that Fildebrandt had been charging meals to his MLA expense account while simultaneously claiming his MLA per-diem for meals.
On August 15, 2017, Fildebrandt was charged under the provincial traffic act with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to notify the owner of the damaged vehicle, for an incident alleged to have occurred in June, 2016.

Also In August 2017, Fildebrandt left the United Conservative Party caucus to sit as an independent

In December 2017, he was charged with illegally killing a deer,

2018 may have sorted rough, but we also saw a transition

In February 2018, United Conservative Leader Jason Kenney announced that Fildebandt was removed from the UCP Caucus.

On July 20, 2018, Derek Fildebrant helped found and was appointed Interim Leader of the Freedom Conservative Party of Alberta. And last night, they had their first Calgary FCP Pub night.
