Going, Going, Gone! – Humor Unplugged

Wisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge.  Welcome to Wisdom-Trek where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1222 of our trek, and it is time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Humor Unplugged. Our Thursday podcast will provide a short and clean funny story to help you lighten up and live a rich and satisfying life - something to cheer you and provide a bit a levity in your life.

We are told in  Proverbs 15:30, "A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health." We are also encouraged in Proverbs 17:22, "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength." Consider this your vitamin supplement of cheer for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s funny which is titled...
Going, Going, Gone!

Frank was really interested in obtaining a rare breed of parrot, which was known for its fluent speech capabilities. He saw that there was an exotic animal auction that was being held in a town near him, so he decided to attend. When he arrived at the auction, he spotted the parrot he desired. When it came time to auction off the parrot, the auctioneer described the beautiful parrot and mentioned that it had a very large vocabulary.

As the bidding started, there were a few people who seemed interested, so Frank started the bidding off at $500.00, thinking that would drive away everyone who may be wanting to bid. Frank really wanted this bird,  but from one of the corners, he heard someone bid $600.00.

Frank got caught up in the bidding. $700.00 said Frank, then the other bidder quickly shouted out $800.00. Frank could not tell who the other bidder was since he appeared to be on the other side of the room. Frank kept on bidding, but kept getting outbid. So he bid higher and higher and higher.  Soon the bid was up to $1,500.00, and Frank was starting to get a bit nervous.

Frank thought, "One last bid," and blurted out $2,000.00!  The other person fell silent, and no one else bid against him.  Striking his gavel, the auctioneer shouted out "Sold for $2,000.00," as he pointed to Frank.

Finally! said Frank. Although he bid way more than he intended, he won the bid. The parrot was his at last!

As Frank was paying for the parrot, he said to the auctioneer, "I sure hope this parrot can talk. I would hate to have paid this much for it, only to find out that he can't talk!"

"Don't worry," said the auctioneer, "he can talk. Who do you think kept bidding against you?"

I hope that brought a smile to your face today.  If it did, pass your smile onto some else, we all could use a good smile. Our Thursday thought is "A horse never runs so fast as when he has other horses to catch up and outpace."

Luke 14:28

“But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?"

As you enjoy these nuggets of humor, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.
