Melbourne stoner/rock/desert outfit The Balls have never been a band to sit by idle while the world and its music passes them by.

They are more cut from the pro-active mould, churning out albums quicker than most people change drinking habit at a rate of three in the last four years.

While much of Australia struggled with lockdown and the isolation it brought, The Balls saw it as simply another opportunity to create more music, which they did with the release of new single “Stranger”.

Guitar/vocals Ryan joined HEAVY for a chat about the new single and how they manage to maintain such a healthy strike rate.

"We are trying to...," he measured. "Like I said, we recorded them really quickly once we finally got out of lockdown and were able to do something. It was written through that period when there was not much activity going and we picked one that was organically easy and swift to record because we wanted to drop it so quickly without having to go through a longwinded process. We re going for that organic feel and sound as much as we can. I've definitely got a lot of blues in my background and the boys have probably got more of a metal slant on things as well so its a mixture of the two. We were definitely going for that kind of, more desert sound that comes out from the States. We tried to keep it as real as we could so that's live takes basically with just the three of us together, no click tracks or anything."

In the full interview, Ryan runs through The Balls approach to writing, how it manifests itself in new music so frequently, the early days of the band and how their vision has changed, not being able to perform live and more.
