Armed with a new line-up and renewed vigour, all-female thrash merchants Nervosa are back with their latest album Perpetual Chaos.

After being forced to reassemble three-quarters of the line-up early last year, founding member and guitarist Prika Amaral scoured the world to bring together a formidable line-up, adding members from all over Europe to form an almighty thrash/death machine that decimates from the outset on the new record.

Prika joined HEAVY for a chat during the week about the new album and rebirth of the band.

"We changed our lineup last year after eight years with the same vocalist,” she explained. “We have composed and recorded a new album in almost four months in the middle of the pandemic situation. All the girls now are from Europe, the vocalist is from Spain, our bassist is from Italy and the drummer is from Greece and I am from Brazil! We met in Europe to record the album in Malaga and it was a very beautiful experience. To have the opportunity to be in a paradise after many months locked in it was a dream. I stopped and took some minutes to breathe (laughs). The new girls are very fun and everything was super easy and worked out well."

With Perpetual Chaos coming out late last month, Prika says the reception has already exceeded even her wildest dreams.

"It's been even better than we were expecting. Of course, we were expecting something good because we worked very hard and we gave our maximum and put up all of our energy. It was really impressive because everyone completely loves this new album and we are on the top in many countries and radio stations than we have ever been before. The recognition for the new Nervosa has been huge and we are very happy with the results. We are receiving support from all fans - old and new - it's amazing. I can say that this couldn't be better.”

In the full interview, Prika talks us through the musical direction of the album, recording in a quiet surrounding and how that impacted the final product, getting to know her new bandmates in the studio, what it was like for her to record with almost an entirely new band, introduces us to each new member and what they bring to Nervosa and more.
