Gold Coast rockers Kobrakai are preparing for the release of their latest single Glimpse, also their first release as a bona-fide duo.
Following the work-related loss of their third member Fuzz, Kobrakai elected to continue as a two piece, content in the knowledge that musically their creative flair was more than enough for the recording studio.
The results of those sessions is Glimpse, a rocking number with more of a desert rock feel than it’s predecessor Planets, with vocalist Cloudy experimenting more with his vocal delivery to create a heavy sound musically, in contrast to a softer vocal technique that sees the band paving new musical territory.
Cloudy joined HEAVY to chat about the release.
"I was actually going back through some old voice demos,” he started, “and the original idea is pretty patchy on this one. I can’t honestly remember how the music for it came about, but the lyrics were just lines that came into my head. Certain things at certain times and then everything fell into place around that. I recorded it into my phone and sent it through to Loco, our drummer, and he came back with some feedback and when we got a chance to jam - because we had a few lockdowns this year as well as last year - we fleshed it out. Once again that seems to be hoe it rolls for us, but from a music point of view there's a lot of space in there and we experimented with a few different vocal ideas. If anything, the music is heavier than anything we've done in the past, but vocally it's a lot softer."
In the full interview Cloudy talks about the slight change in direction on Glimpse, the subject matter, Kobrakai’s overall sound, future music plans and more.
