Western Australian post-hardcore outfit Kastiell return with their latest single “Brave New World”, a timely song about taking back your own future and refusing to give in to mainstream media who tend to dictate terms and try to control your life choices.

It is a poignant song given the times, and one made all the more stronger by the involvement of Dan Marsala from Story Of The Year who not only provides guest vocals on the track but also handles mixing and mastering duties.

Lead guitarist Beau Chapman sat down with HEAVY during the week to talk about the song.

"It's a post-hardcore song so it's got plenty of riffs and shred in there,” he explained. “At the same time we also put in some heavy breakdowns, but we try not to go really heavy. We keep it melodic when it comes to the vocals so they are pretty clean for the majority of the track but then when we hit the breakdown and when Dan kicks in it gets a little bit heavier.”

The message conveyed by “Brave New World” is a strong one, basically urging the listener to take back control of their own destiny.

"I got together with our singer Dylan and put together the lyrics”, Chapman continued. “The concept was... it was written during COVID and the pandemic and there was a lot of misinformation coming out from the media and everyone had some uncertainty around it - including ourselves - and it was about trying to get some clarity from the situation. So I think it was a bit of hey, look, we're sick of hearing all of this misinformation through the media - and the media is always focusing on the negatives - and we wanna try and focus on the positives and look forward on how we can actually make things better. It's kind of a song about a bit of an uprising and standing up to the media. We need to start a new trend and a new revolution focusing on what we can do to make this world better rather than dwelling on the negatives."

In the full interview, Beau talks about working with Marsala, how it came about, goes into greater detail about “Brave New World”, talks about upcoming music and plans for 2021 plus more.
