The alternative is to suffer from feelings of despair, self-loathing or even hatred towards those around you even though you don't realize it. Purposeless people are very hard on themselves but they are even harder on others around them. This can be very hard for family members who love the person but may not understand why things have come to this point. Not everyone has what it takes to build something great so they can end up in destructive situations if they don't have someone who understands their situation and helps guide them.
