I still need to finish listening, but while it's in my head, I wanted to comment on what was brought up about Ash Wednesday. My husband is Catholic, and so far as I can find, the ashes are derived from a Jewish tradition of mourning blended with several Biblical references to the protection God gives those who bear His name/mark upon their foreheads (Ezek. 9:4-6, Rev. 9:4, 14:1, 22:4). It's also listed with the symbols of remembrance in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (bound to the forehead or "between the eyes" so far as NIV or 1599 Geneva are concerned). One thing I did start wondering was opening the third eye versus blinding the third eye. If you're being marked by the symbol of Jesus with the ashes created from the previous year's Palm Sunday palm fronds, how does all that work together?
