An incredibly inspirational story of a paralympian that fell in love with wheelchair basketball at a Wheelchair NSW Christmas Camp as a 10 year old. Kylie Gauci PLY was recently inducted into the BNSW Hall of Fame, having first put on an Australian singlet at just 17 years old she has gone on to represent the nation over 17 years at 255 games and has played in 5 World Championships, and 3 Paralympics medalling at each.

A fiercely competitive player Kylie embodies a relentless work ethic forged in a prolific era for the Gliders. Kylie gives us a look into the privilege and relentless hard work in representing the Green and Gold and signifcantly how empowering it was for her by lifting any preconceptions of people with disabilities.

We’re grateful for Kylie’s reflection of that successful era for our Women’s Wheelchair squad and the role models that inspired her drive for success. We also explore some of the challenges in recent years impacting a program once accustomed to a podium finish and the impact of funding on our sports and inequities for disablity sports.

She’s an amazing competitor who like so many paralympians love the intense physicality of the game, and although retired from international competition you can still catch Kylie play for the Sydney Metro Blues in the domestic league in which she has amassed a staggering 17 All-Star 5 nominations!

Enjoy!
