There's no need to run from the holidays. It's time to load up on the leftovers and utilize the healthy tips to tackle Thanksgiving. Let's make it a tasty one! Because who wants to count those 4,500 to 6,000 calories. That's the range of how much Americans put away in a Thanksgiving meal. Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Why not AIM to please with healthy tips so the holiday can be more enjoyable and the conversations can be more of the focus instead of the calories. Count me in! The K.I.S.S. ~ Healthy tips to tackle Thanksgiving! Start the day with a good breakfast. You might want to "save up" for the big meal. But by choosing a modest-sized breakfast with protein will keep you satisfied and help prevent the munchies on rolls, chips, and dips. Intentionally move. Go for a walk all throughout the day. Move more than you sit. You'll feel more alive too. Hydrate with lots of H2O. Load up on the water. It does the body good.  Be a picky eater for the day. Eat what you like and give yourself permission to NOT try everything. Choose wisely what you will indulge in. And don't forget those specialty yummies that only come once a year. Don't miss those! Fill the small plate. When you choose a smaller plate, you are tricking your eyes and mind. Less is more. Let the portions set you apart. Load up on the vegetables. Many traditional thanksgiving dishes incorporate veggies like sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole, but these are typically calorie laden. Sauté green beans, mushrooms, onions, and garlic in olive oil. Add some fresh thyme and freshly squeezed lemon juice at the end. Feel free to reduce the amount of added fat (butter, oil) and sugar by up to half without sacrificing flavor. Pumpkin it is! Pumpkin is packed with nutrients – vitamin A, potassium, and fiber. Slow down. Savor the food you are eating and put your fork down in between bites. Really appreciate the bites of food you take. Enjoy your family and friends. Visit with everyone. If you talk more, you'll eat less. That means you can enjoy more little bits than big portions. Pack it up. Once dinner is over, put away the leftovers. Leave the nibbles for another day.
