Welcome to Episode 152 of Building My Legacy.

In a recent podcast Daniel Stafford and Robby Switzer talked about their company, Shopanova, a modern growth buying agency for eCommerce shops and the advantages of “live selling” as part of online marketing. As informative as that discussion was, their backstory was so fascinating that we invited Daniel and Robby to talk with us again and share more about their entrepreneurial journey. Just six years ago they were making a good living in the commercial fishing business, but events — including the loss of a boat that put Daniel $50,000 in debt — made them realize this wasn’t the life they wanted. Their experience, which includes a great deal of uncertainty and a number of challenging setbacks, illustrates what you can do if you have determination and perseverance.

As so many individuals and businesses have struggled during the last year, you, too, may be wondering where to go next. Daniel and Robby realized that, to have the lives they wanted, they needed a mindset shift. Their inspirational story provides important lessons for all of us.

So if you want to know:

– How following the career model set for you isn’t always the best idea
– Why making money actually starts with your mindset
– How setting limits on the length of your workday can help you work more efficiently
– The importance of thriving professionally and personally — for you and your employees
– Why learning from experience is the slowest way to learn — and how a mentor can help you avoid this

About Daniel Stafford and Robby Switzer

Daniel Stafford and Robby Switzer, the founders of Shopanova, are both from a small town in Alaska where they worked in commercial fishing. When Daniel survived his boat capsizing, he realized there had to be a safer way to make money. He teamed up with Robby — who would eventually become his brother-in-law — and decided to try something completely different: a video production company. In determining what additional value they could bring to their customers, Daniel and Robby figured out how to use a marketing asset and run a paid ad strategy. Today, as a service provider for eCommerce brands, Shopanova has been able to grow its clients’ revenues from five figures all the way to seven figures and beyond.
