Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer take you through the stories that matter on the morning of 03/11/2019, including: Workers making federal minimum wage could see their salaries double in the next five years. That is if House Democrats get their way. The House Committee on Education and Labor on Wednesday advanced a bill to raise the U.S. wage minimum from $7.25 to $15 per hour by 2024. However, before the increase can go into effect, the bill has to first be approved by the Senate, which is ruled by a Republican majority. White House chief economic advisor Larry Kudlow calls the idea of raising minimum wage across the board "a terrible idea," adding, "Idaho is different than New York." Voter suppression comes in all shapes and sizes. While Hillary Clinton scares voters with talks of suppression in Selma, voters in Dallas and Houston were forced to turn their clothing inside out or face misdemeanor charges and expulsion from polling places during the November election. In Dallas a man was forced to turn his MAGA hat inside out despite it not even being a presidential election and in Houston the wife of a firefighter wore a yellow tee shirt bearing the words “Houston Firefighters” to a polling place -- there was an initiative on the ballot at the time to give firefighters a pay increase. Ask Texans what problems they're most worried about for the U.S. and for the state, and their eyes turn to the border between Texas and Mexico, the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll found. Political corruption/leadership was the first item on issues facing the country, with 15 percent of the voters choosing that one. But the twin issues of border security and immigration were second and third, combining as most important problems for 25 percent of the respondents. Health care (8 percent), federal spending/national debt (5 percent) and moral decline (5 percent) were other top items.
