(http://www.mediccast.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/junkie-needle-his-hand-overdose-300x200.jpeg)Good day and welcome to this week's episode of the MedicCast. I'm your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I'd like to welcome you to this week's show. I'm looking forward to this week's show. There are several interesting news items for EMTs and paramedics this week including a look at what police officers in some areas are doing to impact patient care in the initial minutes of an active shooter scenario or something like it. Then, we delve into some of the information I picked up in my recent paramedic recert as we look at some of the drugs in the paramedic update from the National Registry. That's all coming up later on in this week's tip of the week after the news.
Before we get to that though, please make sure you check out the links and additional information available for you over at the MedicCast blog at MedicCast.com/blog (http://www.mediccast.com/blog/category/podcasts/). There's a show notes link at the top of the page. Click that link and it will take you right to the most recent episode and you can scroll down there to find any previous episode. There's also a search box there for you on the right if you are looking for something in particular. Take some time and make sure you follow up on the information you get on the show and understand how it applies to your EMS practice and protocols.

Tip of the Week: Fentanyl and Morphine Med Review
For the tip of the week this week, I thought we could look at some of the medications included in the recent paramedic update I took for my national registry recertification. Some of them are new and some are for review but I thought it would make a good topic for the next couple of episodes of the MedicCast here. This week I thought we would take a look at pain management and two of the primary ALS pain management drugs we see out there. Morphine and Fentanyl. So here they are, morphine and fentanyl for EMS review.
