THE BOX

I like the box that I live in;
It's filled with familiar things and friends.
I control the course of my destiny;
Control and comfort are important to me.

Everything is set in perfect order;
I rarely go beyond my self-made borders.
My box is sometimes very boring,
But at least I know where I am going.

I don't need faith inside these walls;
I know every room, closet, and hall.
My box is dark, it has no light;
It doesn't matter, I have no sight.

God came one day and began to knock;
I invited Him into my little box.
He said "My child, there's so much more;
There are new arenas to discover and explore!"
He opened my eyes and held my hand.
He began to explain His purpose for man.
I trembled at first, I didn't understand;
By faith, I accepted His life changing plan.

As I followed my Lord beyond the door,
It began to rain; It began to pour!
The wind blew, the lightning flashed;
The sound of thunder was like a clash!
I was struck with debt and poverty.
My body was struck with infirmity.
My friends were few and nowhere to be found.
My soul was disquieted and cast down!

What happened to the clear, blue sky?
Did the Lord lead me out so I would die?
I was full of fear and began to cry!
I looked at God and asked Him "Why?"

And then the Lord did a strange thing;
He commanded my soul to dance and sing!
He told me to pray for the needs of others.
He told me to forgive and bless my brother.

He told me to lift my head and smile.
He told me to go the extra mile.
He told me to keep my eyes on Him;
I had a choice to sink or swim!

I believed God's word; I would finish
this race!
I began to rebuke the storms I faced!
With Jesus on board, my life was set;
There was no need to worry or fret!

As the storms of life began to pass,
I reached the other side at last!
A crown was placed upon my head;
I was given authority to raise the dead!

The storms taught me to trust and obey;
That Jesus would always make a way!
No longer bound by self-made walls,
In Jesus Christ I stand firm and tall!

True purpose lies outside the box;
Will you arise and go when Jesus knocks?
Will you hide like Adam among the trees
and live your life as you please?

Sandra G Williams
