Sly Dunbar is a Jamaican drummer and record producer, best known as one half of the musical duo Sly & Robbie. Sly began playing drums at a young age and quickly developed a reputation as a skilled musician. In the early 1980s, Dunbar teamed up with bassist Robbie Shakespeare to form the highly influential production duo Sly & Robbie. Together, they became one of the most in-demand rhythm sections in the music industry, working with a diverse range of artists from different genres including Grace Jones, Peter Tosh, No Doubt, Beenie Man, Shaggy, Dennis Brown, and Bob Dylan, to name a few. In addition to his work with Sly & Robbie, Sly has also produced and played on numerous solo and collaborative projects, most notably Bob Marley & the Wailers "Punky Reggae Party" . He is known for his innovative drumming style, which blends elements of reggae, funk, and R&B, and has received numerous accolades and awards for his contributions to music. Did you know Sly & Robbie recived the first Grammy for Best Reggae Album as a part of the group Black Uhuru. Additionally, Sly is recognized as one of the most influential drummers in the history of popular music and has recieved Jamaica's highly coveted Order of Distinction and was inducted into the Jamaican Music Hall of Fame in 2002. Today, Sly Dunbar continues to be an active and highly respected figure in the music industry, collaborating with a wide range of artists and producing music that continues to inspire and influence musicians around the world.
