Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), represent chronic disorders with a major health care impact, currently affecting ~3 million individuals in the EU, for an estimated direct disease-related costs amount of €4.6-5.6 billion in the EU.
Prof. Antonio Gasbarrini is a full Professor of Gastroenterology at the Catholic University of Rome and Chairman of the Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine Division at the Agostino Gemelli Hospital, Catholic University of Rome as well as director of the postgraduate program in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the Catholic University of Rome. Franco Scaldaferri is gastroenterologist at the GastroUnit of Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
