Lovecraftian imagery seems to be at the core of what drives our collective unconscious nowadays. The abyss is overflowing into every aspect of our civilization. People are willingly slipping into altar egos and disassociating from reality. In fact, this delusion is precisely what drives demonic possession of both body and mind, be it a result of drugs, alcohol, sex, dissociative fantasies, or endless forms of trauma. What we believe becomes reality and what we pour our energy into becomes real. Just as H. P. Lovecraft himself was ‘out of his mind’ so are the hoards of collectivized, hive-mind individuals influenced by goblin-mode, or what we should call Shoggoth-Mode. Traditionally these were the shamans, often crippled and or with mental conditions, who entered altered states of awareness and other dimensions to commune with the beings there and bring back knowledge. Except in this case they are being tortured and used as probes into abysmal realities. We are seeing this everywhere from entertainment to finance, and from medicine to professional sports. Fossil fuels and the very pens we use to communicate and tell stories are all based on black goo, something seeping up from the abyss like Titans escaping their imprisonment.
