In this episode we continue studying the book of Genesis. In this episode Sarah has Isaac at the age of 90 and Abraham at the age of 100.

Although she received the child of promise at 90 years old, Sarah lived to see him grow up to be a man. She died when he was 37 years old.

Sarah and Abraham held a feast to celebrate Isaac being weaned and during the event, Sarah caught Ishmael mocking. Was he mocking Isaac or the whole event?

Perhaps, the whole idea of Sarah, a woman 90 years old had stopped weaning the long awaited child of promise, was laughable to him.

Sarah was not going to put up with his mocking or the scorning of his mother. So she told Abraham to send them away. He wasn't going to do it until his God told him to listen to Sarah.

Abraham rose early the next day and sent them away.

Ishmael the child of the flesh was the child of an Egyptian and a Hebrew. He was a mixture of both. Egypt has always represented Satan and sin, and this side of Ishmael despised the promised seed.

Ishmael represents every human being born on earth, he represents all people, we all have a mixed nature, our blood is mingled with good and evil, good and evil abides in all of us and such is the condition of all men and women born on earth.

We all have at some point been alienated from the word of God and cast out, living in the wilderness of sin.

Yet, like Ishmael, he has never forsaken us.

God was with Ishmael so he survived and thrived in the wilderness.

God was with both of Abraham’s sons they both were blessed they just had different destinies and purposes.

Christ the Messiah would come from Isaacs lineage. From him, Jesus the Christ the Savior of the whole world would come, he would save the souls of all men, all who are willing to come to him for the forgiveness of sin.

Ishmael’s descendants would be mighty nations, God would use them at times to punish Isaacs descendants when they went astray and served idols. At other times he would use Ishmael’s descendants, as wasters, they would be instruments used to punish idolatrous nations.

Isaiah chapter 54 verse 16 says, "Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy."

Ishmael, was created or destined to be a warrior a strong, unbreakable arrow in God’s quiver.

He may not have grown up before the eyes of his earthly Father, but his heavenly Father, watched him grow up and become a man, and taught him how to be an archer.

A line of archers would come from him, And God would use these archers to do his will.

Jeremiah 50:29  Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
