In this episode we continue studying the Book of Genesis. In this episode, we discover that the two angels finally arrive in Sodom and they lodge with Lot overnight.

And while they are eating, men from the city, surround the house and demand that Lot bring the angels who look like men outside so they can know them.

The BDB says, "to know" means to know a person carnally. It means to be sexually intimate with a person.

We see this has been the meaning of the word since the beginning of time.

Genesis chapter 4 verse 1 and verse 25 says:

Genesis 4:1  And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

Genesis 4:25  And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

So the men of Sodom, saw two strangers come into town and were inflamed with lust and wanted to know them.

This behavior is seen as an abomination in the Lord’s eyes. As he reveals in the law of Moses, the laws given to Abrahams descendants when they were delivered out of Egypt.

Here’s the text Leviticus chapter 18 verse 22 and Leviticus chapter 20 verse 13.

Leviticus 18:22  Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Leviticus 20:13  If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

We note in this episode that it is not uncommon for God's people to get involved in this sin.

The tribe of Judah fell into this sin here's the text: .

1 Kings 14:22  And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.

1 Kings 14:23  For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

1 Kings 14:24  And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

The important thing to note about this biblical account is that, if this sin becomes prevalent in the church and in the world it's nothing new to God, he's not surprised by it nor threatened by it.

His intervention in the land of Sodom reveals that if there is a resurgence of this type of sin and the trouble that comes with it, it won’t last. This too shall pass. We’ve been this way before.

God knows how to deal with it. He will deal with it in his own way and time. Remember he is sovereign and merciful.
