In this episode we continue studying the Book of Exodus. In this episode we are introduced to the final plague. But not before we are told that Moses has found favor in the land of Egypt, that Pharaoh’s servants see him as someone great in the land.

Whether he wants to admit it or not Pharaoh has been humbled. He had exalted himself above Moses and his people but now God has exalted Moses and his people above him.

Moses has been exalted because God has not let any of his words fall to the ground. Everything he said came to pass. He has gone to Pharaoh, time and time again, he never weakened but grew stronger and bolder.

Now, the people are told about the last plague, that at midnight, the Lord will go out into the midst of Egypt and all of the firstborn will die.

We normally don’t like to think of God going throughout the land killing people. Some read scripture and think that’s not fair, why would God kill all those innocent people?

Yet, we are told that God is a King, He is a great king.

King’s owned all the land in his kingdom AND all the people. At his word they lived or died. God owns the earth, the earth is his kingdom, it belongs to him. And he intervenes in the affairs of men, when he wants to.

We note that not only did kings own the land but they went out to battle with their armies. Kings strapped on their armor and went to war with their soldiers.

So God is about to strap on his armor and go to war against the false gods of the land. The children of Israel won’t have to fight during the midnight battle, because Moses has already paved the way with the spoken word and the miracles.

And at midnight, those who have aligned themselves with the god’s of the land will die.

Yet, anyone wanting to escape God's wrath are free to go into the land of Goshen.

In the last chapter darkness covered Egypt, it was a temporary darkness. Now many of them are about to enter into eternal darkness if they don’t choose to go to Goshen and abide in the light of God’s grace and come under the shelter of the blood of the lamb that will be posted on their doors.

If they choose not to avail themselves of God’s offer of salvation they will die.

Salvation is another word used for deliverance. Strongs says, deliverance means something saved, salvation, help, aid, victory, prosperity, health, welfare.

The AHLB says, The pictograph for salvation is a picture of the teeth used for devouring or destruction, and the picture of the eye. Combined these mean "destroyer watches". The shepherd carefully watches over the flock and the surrounding area and is always on the lookout for danger. When a predator comes to attack, the shepherd destroys the enemy.

God has come to destroy the predators, who have feasted on his children.

Moses is a shepherd, he is a deliverer; the Israleites will follow him out of Egypt into a land flowing with milk and honey.

And Jesus is the good Shepherd. He is our deliverer. If we follow Him, he will lead us out of this dark world, that’s plagued with death, trouble and sorrow, into paradise.

Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
