The death of Stephen Smith was initially ruled as a hit and run case. However, the details about the alleged crash scene never matched up with that account and there have been pervasive rumors that The Murdaugh family massaged the investigation so that it wouldn't include Buster.
Now, after years of getting the run around, the Smith family is finally on the path to getting some answers and perhaps justice after the authorities ruled that Stephen Smith was murdered and they have no re-opened the investigation in hopes of bringing the person responsible to justice.
Buster Murdaugh has denied involvement with the case and went so far as to put out a statement to the media this week denying his involvement.
