When Paris-born author and artist Lilianne Milgrom visited the Musée d’Orsay ten years ago, she had no idea that she would stumble upon L’Origine du Monde by painter Gustave Courbet or how much it would change her life. She quickly became the first copyist in the world to paint this controversial piece of art. In her novel "L’Origine: The Secret Life of the World’s Most Erotic Masterpiece,” Lilianne details this experience, the history of L’Origine du Monde and its creator Courbet.

Since then, "L’Origine: The Secret Life of the World’s Most Erotic Masterpiece” has won six literary novels, including the First Place IndieReader Discovery Award for Best Adult Fiction and the Publishers Weekly 2021 US Selfies Book Award.

In our interview, Lilianne discusses the evolution of her novel, her obsession with Courbet, and what one controversial painting says about us and each other. Then, she treats us to readings from her book.

About Us
Since well before Victor Hugo looked up at Notre Dame and thought, "Huh... what if a hunchback lived in there?" authors have been inspired by Paris. The Storytime in Paris podcast will help keep this tradition alive with short interviews and readings from your favorite contemporary authors with a French connection.

Every episode will feature five questions, asked by you, our authors' biggest fans, and answered live on air. Then, our authors will treat us to a reading of an excerpt from their book. Who knows? Maybe you'll even be inspired to write your own Great French Novel. Happy listening!
