“I used alcohol as a numbing tool for anxiety, stress, frustration and awkwardness. I used it to bypass all those icky feelings, and that’s how I knew it wasn’t healthy.” I’m opening up about my decision to quit drinking after a tumultuous four-year relationship with alcohol.
Growing up around alcoholism and substance abuse, I lived most of my adulthood drug and alcohol-free. But after a difficult cross-country move to Dallas, Texas in 2018, I turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism. In this episode, I discuss the bad decisions and blackouts that stemmed from weekend binge-drinking and how the consequences forced me to rethink my relationship with alcohol.
In part two, I talk about my six months of sobriety, the non-alcoholic alternatives I embraced and the benefits of being alcohol-free.
