Ashley Rosewood from Studying Scarlet Podcast teamed up with Emily for this week's mid-week special crossover episode focusing on some truly mysterious cases from Germany.
Emily discusses the little known tale of the exorcism of Gottliebin Dittus. In 1840, a relatively unlikable (by 1840s Germany standards) young woman, Gottliebin, began to experience some strange happenings from phantom knocks and bangs in the home to loss of consciousness and bleeding breasts. After observing her convulsing and speaking in multiple languages,local pastor, Johann Cristoff Blumhardt, determined she must be possessed by not 1 or 2, but 1067 demons and lost souls who were themselves possessed. It took nearly 2 more years and some horrific occurrences for Gottliebin to finally be rid of the evil.
Ashley tackles the sad story of the girl in the box. On September 15, 1981, 10 year old Ursula Herrmann went missing on her short bike ride home. The eventual discovery of her body in a box only brought more questions than answers. Who could do this to a little girl? Did they actually intend to ransom her? Did they get the right man? Ashley explores the many strange twists and turns of this case and leaves both hosts feeling there is still much more to discover.
