Are you the type of leader who uses a carrot or a stick to move a horse, honey or vinegar to attract bees, encouragement or punishment to motivate others? There are many types of leaders in the world. But the effective leaders, the good leaders, inspire their followers. They use encouragement far more than punishment. Nehemiah was inspirational.
1. Good leaders meticulously survey the situation. (vv9-16)
2. Good leaders encourage the heart before asking for a hand. (vv17-18)
3. Good leaders anticipate opposition. (vv19-20)
I can follow a leader who understands the reality of our situation. I can follow a leader who connects what I value to what needs to get done. I can follow a leader who is not easily swayed or taken off track when trouble comes. In summary, I can follow a leader who inspires me.
