Today Rita Frazer talks with Illinois State University weed wizard Dr. John Sedbrook.
Dr. Sedbrook is working with CoverCress Inc. and his team at the university to alter the genes of the covercrop pennycress. Sedbrook explains they not only have been discovering a likely new edible wonder crop, but also unmasking a new opportunity for year round growing in Illinois.
Dr. Sedbrook adds this amazing project couldn’t happen without the efforts of many others at Illinois State University including; Dr. Bill Perry – Professor of Biology, Dr. Nicholas Heller – Assistant Professor of Ag (and contact for ISU Pennycress Field Days), Dr. Rob Rhykerd – Professor of Ag, Jason Lindbom – ISU Farm Manager, Dr. Willy Hunter – Professor, Chemistry Education, Dr. Rebekka Darner – CeMaST Director; Associate Professor, School of Biological Sciences and Matthew Hagaman - CeMaST STEM Specialist.
