Gospel by means of Hospitality
Preaching Series

The series “Gospel by means of Hospitality” is about the shift in our approach to sharing the gospel. This came out of our outreach of January, where we have continued training our churches in “Living the Gospel Out-Loud,” which is also called “missional living.” All the thoughts and ideas written about it, we’re trying to contextualize the gospel-living in Nepal. As pastors/teachers we want to educate, train and eventually help the church in the way of life (building culture) of living the gospel. Gospel is communicated (understood) reaches the hearts of people by way (means) of hospitality. There are lots of stories among us, as to how we came to hear/know/believe the gospel.

Hospitality was Jesus’ means to living the gospel. In Luke 4, Jesus declares at outset of his public ministry, his mission as “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to preach the good news to the poor… set the captives free, make the blind see, … to declare the year of the Lord’s favor.” When the Spirit of the Lord comes, (church finds breath and life) and becomes alive, it lives out the mission of Jesus, which is more than preaching.

Here’s an excerpt from the “Living the Gospel out-loud” curriculum (please consult the handbook, which is saturated with the ideas of Gospel by means of Hospitality). In fact, you can choose one topic from the curriculum to preach on.

The Goal of the series is to help the church understand, and begin the shift from simply preaching the gospel (as means of evangelism) to living the gospel, and in this way sharing and inviting people to believe in Jesus and to the church. Church is a community centered on Christ. Which means we embody the principles of Jesus, life of Jesus and live it out like Jesus, who’s life was filled with service/hospitality to people that caused them to flourish, while not receiving anything in return, but giving the abundant life to other.
