25 MAY 2023 · Trauma has a very difficult effect on survivors. Unfortunately there are scammers too. We have to distinguish between people who suffer with mental illness and people who are scammers. The former need us to point them to good resources and the latter need blocked. Sometimes it's very difficult to distinguish. In this episode we use real examples. 18 MAY 2023 · Meet Chele Roland, the whistleblower who exposed the International Churches of Christ for decades of abuse cover-ups. After podcasting about her own abuse on WhaTheFlok podcast, Chele began getting all kinds of messages from survivors of abuse from the International Churches of Christ. The ICOC/ICC, known as "The Boston Movement," put a huge emphasis on recruiting "disciples" who were personally responsible for producing large numbers of converts to Christianity. The rules were very strict and Chele was one of the people responsible for producing converts. Her story of sexual abuse is tied to the ICOC/ICC and her conditioning kept her silent for years. After reaching out to over sixty church leaders and not receiving a single response, Chele decided to lead the way for other survivors to seek justice and stop the abuses that are still happening. 11 MAY 2023 · A little over a month ago we had an episode on helping our friend in Haiti purchase a motorcycle so that he could deliver food, water, and medicine to desperate people. Not only did we meet our goal, but we actually surpassed it with enough money to purchase more food and medicine. In a world with lots of bad news, we wanted to share some good. 20 APR 2023 · James MacDonald was recently arrested for felony charges of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury. MacDonald beat up a 59 year old woman and sent her to the hospital when there was a small fender bender. People have been defending Mr. MadDonald, saying that he was framed, he's innocent until proven guilty, and that we need to focus on stories of grace and not highlight felony crimes. This episode highlights those remarks so that we can better understand how churches are likely to respond to abuse allegations. 13 APR 2023 · Why in the world did the Dalai Lama ask a young boy to suck his tongue? The fact that this was called out so publicly is a great sign that people are fed up with people acting creepy toward our young children. In this episode we talk about the extremely inappropriate comment, including kissing the boy on the lips, followed by a very weak apology. This was chalked up to "innocent joking" that is routinely done with children. We believe the public is finally fed up with the excuses for these kinds of sick behaviors with our children. 6 APR 2023 · There's one theme that runs thick among all survivors - loss. And it's not just survivors of abuse. So many millions of people have lost so much. Death is also something that we all will have to face, both among loved ones and we have to face the reality that we ourselves will die, guaranteed. Grief reaches us in tons of different ways and often we're not prepared to face it. But face it we must. We have to face pain to get better. We have to deal with it, process it, acknowledge it, and embrace it if we are going to conquer it. And it's quite possible to conquer our pain! In this episode we talk about facing our pain. We cannot ignore it, mask it, or pretend like it doesn't exist. 30 MAR 2023 · We're really don't like the term "expert" anymore. Writing a book, taking a course, or holding a certificate or political office doesn't necessarily make someone an expert. There are lots of people in every field who claim to be experts but they lack credibility. Credibility is far superior to claiming expertise, especially when it comes to trauma. Trauma experts are people who have lots of education, experience, and credibility among the people they help. That's not to say that only professionals can be helpful, but be very cautious when people claim to be experts but lack credibility or a vast amount of experience and education. It really matters, when we are processing trauma, whether someone is credible or not.
