We are introduced to our storyteller, Michael Sutcliffe, and to Devon himself. We start to get a feel for life at the Haverford School in 1974. We hear of Michael's first encounter with a doubter and he is faced with decision if he will simply acquiesce to the thoughts of another or if he will pursue his own line of inquiry.
