The basis of self-empowerment is taking control of your life and making positive decisions that further your efforts to achieve what you want. Self-empowerment is closely linked to self-confidence and self-esteem. That doesn't mean you have to go it alone – you can build a strong support team to encourage and guide you when needed. Before women can truly find self-empowerment, they need to define who they are. One of the biggest drivers of self-empowerment is a deep understanding of who you are and what you want out of life.

We confuse being drawn to someone with someone being healthy for us, that we are "in love" with said. Being drawn to someone is most likely chemistry. Don’t confuse the two.

When it comes to developing a mindset that can prepare you to handle all of life’s many ups and downs, becoming more flexible in your thinking can be an excellent way to help you succeed.

The month of September marks both National Recovery Month and World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10). There are links between suicide and substance use disorder– and suicide is preventable among people experiencing substance use disorder. People who are experiencing a mental illness like depression or anxiety may use drugs or alcohol to cope with their symptoms. This is called “self-medicating” and it can cause a substance use disorder. Risk of suicide increases if an individual has both a substance use disorder and another mental illness. In this episode we will talk about recognizing symptoms of both and steps to take to prevent and assuage both.

Many people would say that self-confidence is valuable. However, fewer people take the time to consider what it is comprised of and how it is attained. Often, the assumption is that you have it, or you don’t. In reality, this simply isn’t true. As with most things, confidence can be cultivated. A fundamental way to do this is through developing and understanding your worth. In this broadcast I'm going to discuss the how-to of self-validation and by doing so, set you up for greater success and satisfaction in your life.

Whether they served during a war or in peacetime, a veteran's experiences in the service — both positive and negative — have made them a different person than they were before they entered, and may have changed the way they look at things and deal with people. Stressful or traumatic situations may have resulted in habits or ways of coping that can be misunderstood or problematic in civilian life. Some contemplate suicide, and for National Suicide Awareness Month, I am sharing ways to help your vet and yourself work through the mental challenges, such as suicidal thoughts, that may arise when your vet returns home. Self-awareness and self-understanding revolve around the idea of knowing yourself. It is about more than knowing that your favorite color is green and that you would prefer to drive rather than fly. It is about knowing if you recharge better around other people or by yourself. It's about if you are happy with your job or activities, and untimately if you are satisfied with your life.
