Good morning. This is Wednesday, September the 23rd, 2026, and I welcome you to today's edition of Camino Chronicles. Join me in this, this little saunter [laughs] along the path of life. You and I probably share in the experience of an uncomfortable thing called waiting. Mm-hmm. Our real-world lives move at such a pace that we just don't like to wait. We don't like to wait in lines for anything. We, we don't like to be put on hold when calling someone. We don't like traffic and endless stoplights. Now, the list goes on, and I'm sure you have your, your favorite disliked waits. As Paul says in the Book of Romans, "I want what I want when I want it." [laughs] Well, now, that's my paraphrase, but it speaks well about how I feel about waiting for what I want. Th- this business of waiting runs smack into another wall I have to climb over called patience. I don't want patience. I want what I want, [laughs] and I'd prefer it to be soon. It's interesting that the words wait, waiting, and waited are used at least 149 times in the Bible, with lots of different applications to various situations. And the words patient, patiently, and patience, they're used at least 49 times. So it- it's pretty clear there is something to pay attention to here since God's Word addresses it some 200 times. Something to wait for with even a bit of patience to, to discover something important, something that would benefit us, emphasis on that which would benefit us, which is very much something I want. So digging into God's Word provides for us an amazing discovery, th- this thing called revelation, if we hunt for it and are open to it. You see, I find that when the Lord talks to me about waiting, He isn't asking me to be passive, you know, just hanging around with no purpose. God's kind of waiting is based on us waiting on Him so that He can arrange the things of life. "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up as with wings of eagles," the Bible tells us. Spiritual renewal isn't passive. It's strength building, which means it's a very active thing. Just try to imagine all the ways the metaphor wings of eagles can be applied to your life. To get places, to find food, to escape something, or just to soar. Hmm. But there's another very important thing about waiting that we need to learn and live. It's in Psalm 1:30, verses one through six, where the pilgrims who would climb the hill ascending to Jerusalem would be all the while singing songs with melodies and harmonies, with stringed instruments or horns, and surely with united voices saying, and I quote, "I wait for the Lord. I have put my hope in His word," close quotes. This is not a passive waiting. It is very proactive. This isn't hanging around half asleep waiting for stuff to change. It's almost an infantry march of your spirit. Hope is the declaration of faith, which means hope is a war word. When I realize that Jesus Christ is coming again with an incredible and, and most wonderful agenda that includes me, [laughs] that connects to my soul. It invigorates my spirit. It, it makes me want to know more about it, and it causes me to be so much more expectant a- and full of awe and even fuller of hope as my faith activates, and I begin to believe that more is possible. [laughs] Because with Jesus, all things are possible. Can I get an amen? [laughs] Oh. So for a real-life application of this, next time you're in that line waiting, remember that Jesus is at work and start thinking about His coming a- and see if the time doesn't pass more easily, hmm? The Psalm said, "I wait for the Lord," and I'm learning by experience that sometimes the waiting I have to do in traffic, for example, works out for my benefit. It keeps me from having an accident had I not waited. Okay. There are many such preventions that the Lord's guardian angels have worked out on your behalf. So I, I hope you'll be able to be a better waiter as I'm trying to learn as well, and maybe renew your spirit by being much more expectant of what lies ahead. Because, folks, the King is coming. Believe it. Be patient. But wait with holy expectation, and the time will pass by better. Wow. God bless you today as you walk through this day expecting the best. Good morning, everyone. This is Wednesday, September the 16th, 2026, and I welcome you to today's Camino Chronicle. That's a, a record of some thoughts I've had, you know, walking along the path of life. Sometimes words connect with other words in a unique way, like the word discovery and the word epiphany. So discovery means, of course, something that is found or found out or noticed or, or realized. I think that most of us, when making a discovery of some kind, w- we pay attention to it based upon how notable or, or how valuable the discovery is. I mean, it's just common sense that the more valuable a discovery, the more we will hunt for more of it. And then this word epiphany. It means a, a sudden intuitive perception or, or insight into the reality or the essential meaning of something, and it often includes a, a spiritual connection. Now, you and I have had lots of discoveries in our lives, and with each one, we assess the value of the thing to see if we want to find more of it. Sometimes these discoveries lead to an epiphany, that sudden knowing in our soul. For today's chronicle, I want to share with you a recent epiphany I've experienced, [laughs] and it, it's about God. I think the Lord wants us to know more about Him. I think in our inner self, He is working to draw us closer. A- and if we can shut out the noise of the world, you know, long enough to listen, then we may begin to hear what He is saying to us. When reading the Bible, we frequently come to words like this: "And the Lord said," or, "The Lord spoke to so-and-so," or in the King James, "Thus sayeth the Lord." Well, in the New Testament, as early as Matthew 3:15, Jesus is responding to John the Baptist, and it begins, and I quote, "But Jesus said such and such." Matthew 4:4, "Jesus told him." Matthew 4:7, "Jesus responded." Matthew 4:10, "Jesus told him." Matthew 4:17, "Jesus began to preach." Matthew 4:19, "Jesus called out to them." Matthew 5:2, "And he began to teach them." And by the end of Matthew 7:28, it says, "When Jesus had finished saying these things." Just consider that all these statements made by Father God means He is actually talking to people out loud. [laughs] And please discover that in the Bible, the Lord is trying to talk to you. And, and now for the consideration of epiphany, that He is trying to talk to you even when you're not reading the Bible. Y- you see, I've discovered that the Lord talks to me when I'm ready to listen. Now, He may be trying to talk to me a lot more of the time, [laughs] but when I actually make it my purpose to listen to Him, well, He speaks. Last Sunday, I began a very short mini Camino. It's just a walk down a path, and I only went a little over four miles. It w- it was a walk along a trail near my home with the purpose of having some time with Jesus, just Him and me. I had some things on my mind that I wanted to say to Him, and that didn't take very long. We'll call that a prayer. Of course, I could have prayed anywhere, anytime, but let's face it, we usually don't. Our spiritual connections seem to do better when we fine-tune the frequencies, right? When we tune into God with our full attention. Now, again, we could probably do this a lot more than we do, but, but living life a- and, and being in the world, it just, it just clogs up our senses. So I'm learning to take short Caminos where I can isolate my soul to the Spirit of God. So last Sunday, I was on the trail, alone, of course, and I got through my list of things which I had to say, and then I waited upon the Lord for Him to speak to me, and He did a bunch. So I began to make some notes so I could reflect later. And this next one is, is the one that I have for you today. I didn't get the scriptural text during my walk, so I looked it up later because I was pretty sure what he was speaking to me kind of was sourced in or came from the scriptures. Turns out it was from Matthew five, verse forty-one, which says, and I quote, "And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two." Close quotes. So when I got home and I looked it up, I realized it was a teaching that Jesus was giving about several things, about revenge, about turning the other cheek, about going to court. But after those things, he said, quote, "And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two." Close quotes. One of my Bible commentaries explains that this is a reference to the custom of forced service in transport by a king's courier who could demand the service of others to carry out the king's business, which could not be refused. Hmm. Okay, that's for you Bible geeks who try to connect everything to the customs of the day. All right. But what I heard the Lord saying to me was that this little camino I was on was not a small thing, and that I would benefit more from two miles than I would from only one. In other words, "Skip, don't quit too soon. Don't stop before you hear from God. Don't let the inconvenience of walking or, or the interruption of your day, [laughs] or the cares of this world choke out the Word of God to your very own soul." But part of the epiphany was that I was being compelled, not forced, but compelled. Do you see the difference? Can you think of a time when you were compelled to, to do a thing, not forced to do it? I suppose our flesh cries out and tries to compel us to do lots of things we shouldn't do. But here I am talking about being moved upon by God's Spirit. Hang on one sec. Okay, I'm back. I can control a lot of things, but not when the door knocks. I was saying that I suppose our flesh cries out and tries to compel us to do lots of things we shouldn't do. But here I'm talking about being moved upon by God's Spirit, which in itself is an epiphany. I made a total of eight notes of specific things the Lord was offering me on that short four-mile saunter. [laughs] The purpose of today's chronicle is to encourage you to try this. It's, it's a kind of a spiritual fasting from the day's events by taking a walk alone, long enough to hear from the Lord, and then making some notes as to what he says. [laughs] And if you do, I'd love to hear from you what you heard from him. The Bible tells us that we overcome, in part, by sharing our testimony, and there's a lot to overcome in these days. It, it's just so much better than hiking, huh? [laughs] Oh my goodness. John Muir, he w- he was that famous naturalist and noted backpacker in the Sierra Mountains. He once said, and I quote, "Back in the Middle Ages, people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land. And when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would say, 'A la Sainte Terre,' which in French means to the Holy Land. And so they became known as Sainte Terrerers or Saunterers." My French isn't very good. A la Sainte Terre became Sainte Terrerers, which became in English Saunterers. [laughs] Hey, I hope you appreciate the international insights I bring to this podcast. My sauntering along recently got me to thinking about a time growing up when my dad did something I had no way to appreciate, at least not at the time. He joined a country club. Now, kids, uh, yeah, kids, teenagers even, have little understanding of what the parents [laughs] really go through, and they often have no idea of how blessed they are if, as in my case, you now have the privilege of a private golf course to play on. Now, a bit later in life, I began playing racquetball, which I just loved, and I discovered that finding a, a, a racquetball court to play on, that could be very difficult. Well, I found out that the local Elks lodge had their own private courts, which I could play on as often as I liked if I joined the Elks lodge. Hmm. I began to learn the truth of that old saying, "Membership has its privileges." Hmm. A, a couple of years ago, my oldest son took me to dinner in downtown Portland to a very exclusive restaurant to which his company had a membership. Now, this particular membership costs the company something like $800 a year, something like that, I think, for which they get the privilege of making a reservation. And then you got to pay about $200 for a single meal. Yes, membership has its privileges and its costs. Something pretty amazing happened after Jesus was raised from the dead, after he breathed the Holy Spirit upon his followers, and after he left them again via the ascension into heaven. What happened is he set up his church, a pretty exclusive membership-only group for which he paid a hefty price to establish. The account in the book of Acts chapter two speaks of how this new church began to grow, telling us a little bit about the cost of membership. To get into this group, one had to, one, believe what Peter said about Jesus. Number two, repent of your sins. Number three, turn to God. And number four, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Well then, as they joined this church, the Bible tells us that they devoted themselves to four things. Number one, the apostles' teaching. Number two, fellowship. Number three, the sharing of meals together, in- including things like communion. And number four, prayer. It then says, and I quote, "A deep sense of awe came over them all," close quotes. And what follows is almost too much to comprehend. Look it up, Acts two, 43 to 46, and you'll see how truly awesome it was. The benefits of membership, you see, they're only enjoyed by the members who participate. I never would have enjoyed the benefit of playing golf at my dad's club if he didn't pay for it and I didn't go. I never would have benefited from the easily accessible racquetball courts offered by the Elks lodge if I didn't join, you know, pay the dues, and then go. I never would have experienced the wonder of a fancy meal at an exclusive membership restaurant someone else paid for if I didn't go order a meal. Hmm I hope you are sauntering along with me here and understand the analogies. Jesus Christ [laughs] has paid for us to be able to join a very exclusive club, which He wants everyone to join, and for whom He will pay the entry fee. But there are some conditions. Uh, I wonder today how many Christians actually have a deep sense of awe, have read the membership handbook, and would rather go to church with other members versus hanging out with the pagan worldlies. Hmm. I mean, I can promise you from personal experience that private golf clubs are more fun to play, [laughs] especially after the round. I can promise you that private sports clubs are more fun than open gyms and locker rooms, huh? And I can certainly tell you that a private dining, you know, with, with all the special attention one gets, it's much better than fast food restaurants. [laughs] What the Lord Jesus is offering us is way better than what we can muster up ourselves, and He paid the bill in advance. Oh my goodness. [laughs] Yes, the Church is an exclusive membership organization with an awesome here and now experience, hmm, but an even more awesome future rollout coming, coming soon to a location near you. But it ain't free to join, and there are some conditions. The cost of admission has been paid, but you still have to meet the conditions of membership. To have faith is to believe that Jesus is Lord. One cannot deny Him and claim to be a believer. A denier is what the Bible calls an antichrist. To repent, of course, is to turn away from sin and intentionally turn to God. Well, it is by grace that God gives you the power to repent. So, so even this so-called condition is, is one the Lord walks with you and provides, if you let Him and if you're obedient. That leaves having a sense of awe, reading the Bible, and going to church. Or not. You pick. He will provide if you let Him. [laughs] Hallelujah. Let's go on a saunter today with Jesus Christ. Good morning, everyone. Welcome to today's edition of Camino Chronicles. [laughs] And may I ask you to tighten your seat belts because, well, here we go. In the book of Genesis 11:4, it says, and I quote, "Then they said, 'Come, let's build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.'" End quote. Now, wait a minute. How'd they know that God would scatter them? Let, let me know when you find that answer. Then in verse five it says, "And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men had built." Now, this tower is called the Tower of Babel, and that comes from chapter 11, verse 9. And it's that great story about how man thought he could build a city on their own, reaching to heaven, making themselves famous. [laughs] That's what they say, they wanna become famous. I mean, it's kinda all about them, isn't it? Sorta like today. The word Babel means confusion, and it was probably referring to Babylonia on the Euphrates River. But the guy named Babel was the son of Nimrod, and he came out of Noah's line. And the word Nimrod means rebellion. [laughs] Confusion and rebellion. I mean, history surely is, is repeating itself today. I, I think we should caution parents, do not name your kids Nimrod. [laughs] Okay, let's fast-forward to when the Apostle John was about to write the book we call Revelation. It was about a king who's coming. Oh, hallelujah. John tells us right from the beginning, listen to this, I quote this, "This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show his servants the events that must soon take place." Close quotes. Wow. Now, this word soon is in the New Living Translation. In the King James Version, it says these things that must shortly take place. Okay, so take a pencil and cross that out in your Bible. Cross out the word soon or quickly and write, uh, uh, not... [laughs] In the King James it doesn't say quickly. In the King James it says, "Must shortly take place." Okay, sorry. So you're gonna cross that out and you're gonna write in quickly or suddenly. A- and that's a much better translation of the Greek. It... And in fact, in both my New Living and King James translations, there's a footnote by the word soon and it says quickly or suddenly. Now, this book, this book we call Revelation, it's from an encounter that John had with an angel of God. Oh my gosh, that'll get your attention. It happened or it was written in about 96 AD on the island of Patmos. Now, this same John was in the city of Ephesus six years earlier, about 90 AD when he wrote 1 John. Listen to this, 1 John 2:18, and I quote, "Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come." Close quotes. Well, what is this last hour? Well, it, it's the time, the period of time leading up to the second coming of Jesus. It, it's the time that we're in now. So here's the timeline. And although we don't know the, the dates, we do know the seasons. First, there will be a falling away, an apostasy the Bible calls it. Huh. Do you think that's happening yet? Second, then comes the catching away of, the catching away of the believers, the, the what we call the rapture of the church spoken of in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 and 2 Thessalonians chapter 2. Then the Antichrist assumes power and sits in the temple trying to be God. And there's lots of discussion here as to whether it's a literal temp- temple or a symbolic or a figurative temp- uh, figurative one. That's all okay. The fourth thing happens though, this ushers in the seven-year period of time we call the Great Tribulation. Very sad times for those who are here. Number five, then the second coming of Jesus Christ when he establishes his rule and his reign for, number six, the millennial reign, his thousand years of... of rule on Earth. And then number seven, a perfect number, come a new heaven, a new earth, new people, new conditions, new Jerusalem, new temple, new light, and new paradise. Oh, glory. Hallelujah. Praise the name of the Lord. [laughs] Back in 1 John 22, he asks, "And who is a liar?" It gives the answer. Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ, anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist. And that word antichrist means a adversary. John says that every spirit that does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world, and indeed is already here. In, in 2 John, he goes on and he says, "I say this," he was speaking about that we should love one another. He says, "I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body." Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist, adversary. Okay, hold that thought for a minute. There was a movie a few years back about a kid playing a game on his computer, where he took one side and the computer took the other, and they tried to conquer one another. It was a war game, right? Well, in this story, in this movie, the computer went nuts and actually took over America's nuclear missile capability, and was about to launch attacks, nuclear rockets and missiles all over the world. There was also, uh, that movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey, it was called, where a computer named Hal went [laughs] nuts and caused a lot of trouble. Right now, there's a movie in the theaters called A House of Dynamite. Wow. It's about a nuclear missile that's been launched, and it's, it's gone rogue, and it's about to wipe out Chicago. Oh, my. And all the computers are trying to talk to each other and figure out what to do. Our current fascination with artificial intelligence, AI, is stirring up all kinds of concerns, a- and rightly so, I think. [laughs] I asked a friend the other day what he thought about computers being the Antichrist, and he gave me a very scholarly re- answer. He said, "Hmm." [laughs] I said, "Maybe they," meaning computers, "will become sentient." What a great word. Sentient means having the power of perception by the senses. In, in other words, conscious. It's characterized by sensation and consciousness. Well, my friend went on to call this the singularity. What great words, sentience and singularity. [laughs] Here are the three attempts to understand singularity. You ready? Number one, a singularity is a point where normal physical mathematical rules break down, or singularity refers to a boundary where existing models fail. They fail to describe what happens next. Hmm. Or number three, and according to that all-knowing truth called Wikipedia, [laughs] singularity refers to a boundary where existing models fail to describe what happens next. I guess you can see that when computers become sentient, they will not only have the power to perceive senses and to be conscious, whatever that means, but they will also reach this thing called singularity. Oh, boy. [laughs] Okay, let me try to connect all these dots. I love this. Number one, mankind is so selfish that he will attempt anything to become like God, like building a tower to heaven or a computer system that can do anything. Number two, our technology is advancing so rapidly that we, we're even beginning to fear our own technology. Our experts don't even know if they can control it once it [laughs] reaches a certain point. And number three, dear ones, we are in the last hour. Hopefully, we're preparing for the sudden and very quick return of Jesus Christ. So the Bible tells us that we should be ready, not be asleep, not be complacent, or in Bible-ese, not be fallen away. In 2 Peter 3:8, it tells us that to the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. [laughs] In other words, time is not something that controls God, but God controls and is beyond time. The Bible words, "The day of the Lord," refer to something absolutely [laughs] fantastic, something beyond amazing, something almost beyond our ability to comprehend. Words telling us that Jesus Christ is coming back a second time to rule and to reign as a king, and that just before He arrives on Earth, He will catch away those who believe in Him, and then He'll set up His earthly kingdom. Oh, I suggest you reread the Book of Revelation, and especially pay, pay close attention to chapter one, verse three, and I quote this, "God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the Church, and He blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near." End quote. In verse 17, He then says, "Don't be afraid." Folks, a king is coming, and it's gonna be terrific for us who believe. So get ready. Fill your lamps. Trim your wicks. In the book of Genesis 11:4, it says, and I quote, "Then they said, 'Come, let's build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.'" End quote. Now, wait a minute. How'd they know that God would scatter them? Let, let me know when you find that answer. Then in verse five it says, "And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men had built." Now, this tower is called the Tower of Babel, and that comes from chapter 11, verse 9. And it's that great story about how man thought he could build a city on their own, reaching to heaven, making themselves famous. [laughs] That's what they say, they wanna become famous. I mean, it's kinda all about them, isn't it? Sorta like today. The word Babel means confusion, and it was probably referring to Babylonia on the Euphrates River. But the guy named Babel was the son of Nimrod, and he came out of Noah's line. And the word Nimrod means rebellion. [laughs] Confusion and rebellion. I mean, history surely is, is repeating itself today. I, I think we should caution parents, do not name your kids Nimrod. Good morning, everyone. This is Wednesday. It's August the 26th, 2026, and I welcome you to today's edition of Camino Chronicles, as I tell you a little bit about the path that I'm on. [laughs] First, today, I wanna share, share something fr- from just last night. It was almost midnight when I was reading in my daily devotion titled New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp. And I usually read this devotional [laughs] after midnight, in the very early morning, when God's mercies are completely new for me. He was talking about the emotion of fear, which caused me to remember the famous Churchill saying, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." [laughs] But Tripp said that fear in a believer is a function of forgetfulness to the degree that you forget who God is. Hmm. A- and then he offered what he called the solution to fear, which really made me pay attention b- because I certainly want my fears to be not only relieved, but just gone. He said, "The only solution to fear is fear." What? He went on to say, "When the fear of God overwhelms and controls your heart, it protects you from the paralyzing and debilitating fear of other things," close quotes. Oh, boy. So much to ponder there. Co- could this be true? Could it be that our fears would melt away if we really feared the Lord? Even trying to understand what that means. So then he directed me to Psalm 111, and the famous text found there, and I quote, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." The fear of the Lord, the awesome respect one has for God Almighty, is the beginning of wisdom. Wow. I mean, there's a whole Camino for you right there because you really do want wisdom. You do. [laughs] You crave wisdom because every day reveals to you how much you need the wisdom of God. I mean, sometimes just to get through the day. Hallelujah. God provides. May we begin to fear the Lord and thus be recipients of His wisdom. Wow. That all came upon me last night. So now, for today's previously pondered Camino Chronicle, we'll see how the two connect. We are, all of us, emotional creatures. Uh, some of us maybe more so than others [laughs] but that's probably just that some of us are more willing to display our emotions. Hmm. I don't like some of my emotions. I found myself, the other day, not just feeling but actually being cynical, and I got sort of Jesus smacked, you know, such that I had to go home a- a- and dig a bit deeper into my own soul. I looked it up bec- because I was un-- I wanted to make sure that I was, uh, understanding something correct, what, what it means to be cynical. It means distrusting or, or, or disparaging the m- the motives of some other people. The dictionary says it's showing contempt and bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic. Oh, boy. I daresay there's no shortage of stuff happening in this modern age contributing to these feelings. I m- i- i- it's, it's like a poison, and a deadly one. So we need an antidote to this poi- poison. So here comes your vaccine shot, the antidote for being cynical. You ready? The antonym for being cynical is to be optimistic. Optimistic. Of course, we all know what optimistic means. Here are some of the synonyms of optimistic: believing positively, assured, bright, buoyant, cheerful, confident, encouraged, expectant, happy, high, hopeful, hoping, idealistic, keeping the faith, merry, on cloud nine, on top of the world, positive, promising, ray of sunshine, rose-colored, sunny, trusting, ha, even to utopia. [laughs] Optimistic. Now, listen, these are all more than just words of emotion. Because they lead, follow with me here, this is so cool. These words lead to actual behaviors, not just thoughts we have from time to time, but the issue here is what we do with these thoughts. Now, I may not know where all the thoughts in my head come from, but I am surely responsible for what I do with them, you know, whether I entertain them or dismiss them. Now, other people may contribute to the thoughts in my head. So it's kind of important that I surround myself with the right kind of people. And I'm sure you've noticed that the news today, you know, whether it's radio, TV, or in print, even online, it's a big contributor to what you think about. So think about this for a minute, okay? Think about what you think about and why. Let me repeat that. I want you to spend some time today thinking about what you think about and ask yourself why you're thinking those thoughts. Ask yourself, is it doing your soul any good? And if not, why keep entertaining it? It may not be possible to tune out all the voices that are causing you to think about stuff, but you can certainly be proactive in this. You can add in some positive voices. Now, you probably already know this, but I'll give you two really good proof texts from God that speak directly to this whole business. The first comes from Deuteronomy 30, verse 19, and it says, Oh, that you would choose life. And the second proof text is Philippians 4, 8, and it says, Think on these things. Now, I recommend that you look each of these Bible verses up. Look them up and, well, think about them. Take some notes and see if your choices in life, your behaviors, line up with what God says would be beneficial to you. Deuteronomy 30, 19, Philippians 4, 8, and read the list. And then ask yourself if your behaviors are lining up with what God's Word says would be beneficial to you. In fact, you could even make a list and put it on the dashboard of your car. Other people may even see it. Look, I'm not kidding. I typed up the list from Philippians and I put a copy on my fridge. And then I made another copy and I taped it to the dashboard of my car. I'm looking forward to a better thought life as I learn to obey the words of God recorded in Deuteronomy, choosing life. I pray that the fear of the Lord would dominate your emotions today and begin opening His wisdom to your soul, even as it has been working on mine. Wow. God bless you today, Pilgrim. Hey, good afternoon, everyone. This is Wednesday, August 18th, 2026, and welcome to today's edition of Camino Chronicles, those little records I, I make along the path of life, right? And you'll notice I'm coming to you late today. Instead of being 10:30, I was coming back from Seattle this morning and had a glorious drive. The sun was out. Seattle is sure a beautiful place when the sun is out. [laughs] Oh, my. So listen, this just recently happened to me, so it's, it's fresh in my mind, and I, I've been pondering how God seems to just show up everywhere. Now, of, of course, we can see Him in nature, and we, we try to comprehend all the interconnected elements of, of life on this planet, and it's amazing. The, the whole creation is connected to a- and affected by all of creation. Now, some folks just call it science, but, but clearly it is all the work of God, a- and science just discovers how God does it. But God shows up not just in the stuff of Earth. He shows up in, in everything if you're paying attention. So for example, I was driving my car the other day, and I had OPB, that's Oregon Public Radio, had that on, and a discussion came on about a certain kind of PrEP, P-R-E-P, PrEP. But this doesn't stand for preparation. This stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis. Now, that's kind of a, a mouthful. Pre-exposure prophylaxis. I mean, it's, it's kinda like a vaccine such that when taken prior to an exposure, that's the pre-exposure part. So if you take this thing prior to an exposure of a very certain kind, it will, it will keep you safe or try to keep you safe from getting this particular disease, hopefully. Now, you might guess that this PrEP was talking about a sexually transmitted disease. It, it's so horrible that, that millions, if not billions of dollars have been spent to help fight it be- because so many, I mean, probably millions of people have suffered. This isn't about making a moral determination. It, it's about a medical one, a healing one. And, and one could surely say that a- all of medical practice is about healing the body or, or preventing disease if possible, and certainly not just the body, but the soul as well, the mind, and the emotions that we all have to deal with all the time. So having a PrEP, a pre-exposure prophylaxis, a preventive, would benefit us so much a- and greatly minimize the need we have to try and fix things. I mean, hey, it, it's just common sense. And I submit to you that the spiritual metaphor here should just explode in your understanding. The greatest disease in humanity is sin. Virtually all our problems are due to sin, which infects everyone, regardless of who or where. And since every human is going to be exposed ri- right from the get-go, wouldn't it make sense to have a pre-exposure prophylactic treatment? Well, certainly the cross of Jesus Christ did something supernatural for us. I mean, His blood was shed, and it provides a cleansing for those who believe in Him, cleansing of all sin, hallelujah, uh, such that the believer will not be judged and not be sentenced to eternal separation from God. [chimes] The Bible tells us that we are saved by grace and that by faith as we put our trust in Christ. But I find that I need a booster shot now and then. Uh, I need something better than just a later fix. I need a prevention. And I rejoice to discover that when I spend time with Jesus, He spends time with me. I discover that when I spend time in my Bible, it talks to my soul, and it keeps my mind in better places than when I spend all my time in worldly stuff. I discover that prayer is a better vaccine for my thought life- than reading about politics, for example. I discover that walking in the spirit of God is so much better than walking in the flesh, even though I'm such an expert at the latter and just a beginner in the former. Now, every pilgrim who starts a Camino will be confronted with discomfort, pain, and a lot of questions to the point of wanting to quit and returning to the so-called normal life. But as the pilgrim pushes on, something begins to happen on the inside. The body gets stronger. The soul begins to get victorious over all of the taunts of the enemy. Each one of us is on a pilgrimage every day. I mean, we are all on some path going somewhere. And we do have the power to stop. We have the power to change direction and to follow a newer, better path. Our faith in Jesus Christ is the best spiritual prophylactic we can use to prevent the enemy from deceiving us, tripping us up, and causing so much grief. Like that wonderful song now proclaims, I speak Jesus over everything in my life. I am protected. I am healed. In Jesus' name, I am saved. Hallelujah. But about now, as I'm talking, the voice of the enemy is shouting loud, questioning everything, pointing out all your failures, all your sins. But, dear pilgrim, the enemy of yours does not win. I've read the book. Jesus wins. And we who believe in him win. So, take your prep medicine and be pre-exposure protected. And rejoice, because taking Jesus will not only be preventive. He will absolutely fix everything in his time for your benefit. I mean, it's true. One thing about this life that we all seem to have in common is our determination to do life our way, regardless of what God says. And right at the very beginning, we did our own thing our own way, and we tried to avoid the consequences. It didn't work. It isn't working. I mean, we reap what we sow. But right now, today, each of us has the opportunity, supernaturally, to be connected to the Creator of all things, the Lord God Almighty, such that we can unburden ourselves. We can confess our sins, acknowledge them, admit them, and then rejoice in the wonderful forgiveness that he showers upon us. And we can walk down the road a better walk, a walk in faith in Jesus Christ or not. I pray today that you will choose life. Amen. God bless you this afternoon. And, and one could surely say that a- all of medical practice is about healing the body or, or preventing disease if possible, and certainly not just the body, but the soul as well, the mind, and the emotions that we all have to deal with all the time. So having a PrEP, a pre-exposure prophylaxis, a preventive, would benefit us so much a- and greatly minimize the need we have to try and fix things. I mean, hey, it, it's just common sense. And I submit to you that the spiritual metaphor here should just explode in your understanding. The greatest disease in humanity is sin. Virtually all our problems are due to sin, which infects everyone, regardless of who or where. And since every human is going to be exposed ri- right from the get-go, wouldn't it make sense to have a pre-exposure prophylactic treatment? Well, certainly the cross of Jesus Christ did something supernatural for us. I mean, His blood was shed, and it provides a cleansing for those who believe in Him, cleansing of all sin, hallelujah, uh, such that the believer will not be judged and not be sentenced to eternal separation from God. [chimes] The Bible tells us that we are saved by grace and that by faith as we put our trust in Christ. But I find that I need a booster shot now and then. Uh, I need something better than just a later fix. I need a prevention. And I rejoice to discover that when I spend time with Jesus, He spends time with me. Good morning, everyone. This is Wednesday, August the 12th, 2026, and I welcome you to this edition of Camino Chronicles. [laughs] We tend to, to like those who seem to like us. For example, think back to when you went to school for the first time, and you were both anxious and excited. As you met new people, you, you checked them out a- and they checked you out, and there was sort of an emotional dance going on. What you were looking for, whether realized at the time or not, was a friend. The dance of emotions doesn't stop, of course, after the first year of school. [laughs] It seems to keep going all through life a- as we meet folks, and we always have our antenna up for meeting a friend. By the teenage years, we begin to look for more than a friend, m- maybe even a lifetime mate. Hmm. A- and many of, of us now are putting that off until the 20s and 30s, but it's still the same idea. The idea of dating is, is to see how well you dance together. I mean, do you even like each other [laughs] and that sort of thing. And then the commitment of marriage, well, that's supposed to be permanent. It, it's a- it's supposed to be able to weather all storms, and it's greatly enhanced when our spiritual lives are in sync so that we can have the benefit of God as well as each other. Well, this brings me full circle to the idea of a friend, plus a realization about love. Abraham, the faith father of the Israelites, he was so close to God that he was called a friend of God. A- and I know that the Lord wants to be our friend, your friend. He, He wants to meet you even [laughs] before your first day of school and be your friend forever. He's even seeking you out to be His friend. God is intentional about friendship, and He's committed to you. Now listen, it gets better. God so loved us that He gave His Son, Jesus, to be our Redeemer, to, to pay for our sin, as Jesus continues to pursue us every day. Now, if it is true that we tend to love those who love us, then we should really love Jesus because He so loved us first. Hmm. If you like someone who likes you, and then you fall in love with someone who is in love with you, and then you marry someone who is committed to you forever, hallelujah, as you become the very bride of Christ and inheritor of His glory, His honor, His majesty, and kingdom, oh my, it might help each of us to remember that God is pursuing us with love, not hate. He's pursuing us with love, not judgment. He's pursuing us with love. [laughs] Not much else, just love. [sighs] With, with all the-- this rolling around in my soul for the last few days, yesterday evening on my way home, I saw a work van. It was a contractor's van, and he had lettering on the side of his van with more than just his name and phone number. He had a slogan, and this slogan was designed, obviously, to get my attention and, and hopefully, uh, bring him some business. The slogan read, and I quote, "Stop chasing contractors. Start trusting one." End quote. What a tremendous slogan for a work van. "Stop chasing contractors. Start trusting one." I think that's pretty cool. It almost made me wanna have a project so I could call him. [laughs] But do you see the spiritual connection? There are so many things out there chasing us for our attention, for our time, for our money, [clears throat] even lots of things trying to keep us from a committed life of faith in Jesus Christ. Folks, there are so many things chasing you, and you've no doubt been burned in the past such that trust can be a tough thing, a tough thing these days to give trust. Y- you may have been burned by a church. You may have been burned by a pastor. You've probably been burned by a Christian friend. I get it. So trust is a big deal. But here is a truth: Jesus Christ has never burned you, nor has He ever taken advantage of you, never deceived you. He has never lied to you, and Jesus Christ has never broken trust with you. It is we who have broken trust with Him, a- and we have lots of others to blame for it, but never Jesus. So [clears throat] paint a new slogan on your soul. It could be this: "Stop chasing anything other than Jesus Christ. Start chasing Him because He is chasing you." [laughs] Amen. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. Don't just chase after Him. Trust Him. Wow. [laughs] So I'm driving along, and a bell goes off in my car, loud enough to get my attention e- even though I'm listening to the radio. And then a red light appears on my dashboard, whi- which I quickly see is a warning light about being almost out of gas. [laughs] Some folks call these red lights idiot lights, because only idiots wait long enough for them to show up. But, but wait, there's more. First of all, I actually have a gas gauge in my car, which I was obviously ignoring. [laughs] Secondly, here came the loud bell, whose only purpose is to get my attention, since I wasn't paying attention. Then third is the red light. That comes on when you're trying to figure out what the bell is for. All three of these things trying to get your attention. But wait, but wait. Then there is the fourth thing. There is an actual gauge on my dashboard which shows me not just how much gas is in the tank, that's the gas gauge, but there's another, another little gauge there that tells me how many actual miles I have left to drive on that tank of gas. If you've been counting, you'll see I actually have four things [laughs] all trying to help me not run out of gas. [laughs] Now, my next thoughts are, of course, how far is the gas station that I wanna use? Now, because I'm frugal, or cheap as my kids would say, I wanna get to Costco or, or even AM PM, because I don't wanna spend 40 or 50, 60 cents more per gallon at the pricier stations. Now, if I risk it, and I lose, and I run out of gas because the other ... the station I want i- is 10 miles away, and I only have gas for five miles, well, then I find myself either walking or hitching a ride with a friend using his gas. Hmm. Now, the spiritual metaphors here are so many, and I, I trust you've been seeing them ahead of me. But to get us on the same page, just, just think about that time when your spiritual tank was full, when you felt close to God, and you were enjoying life with Jesus. You were even out helping others. I mean, maybe you got filled up at a worship service with some good Bible teaching. It just spoke right to you. That was cool. Or maybe you got filled up at a home Bible study, where God himself came off the page and blessed your heart. That's so cool. M- maybe you got filled up at a prayer meeting, where someone who didn't even know you prayed that prayer [phone chimes] that was just for you. And, and the Spirit of God was strong, a- and you left empowered in faith. Oh, hallelujah. Or, or maybe you were just listening to some Christian music, going to work, a- and the Lord set up your day for amazing grace to flow from you to others. Oh, so very cool indeed. However it is that this filling happens, it is so wonderful. A- and it's so needed. In, in Matthew 5, Jesus tells us that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness shall be filled. Hallelujah. Examples of that are in Acts chapter 9. Ananias tells Saul that it was Jesus who has sent me that you might receive your sight. That's the healing part. But he goes on to say, "And be filled with the Holy Ghost." In Ephesians 5:18, it says, "Be not drunk with wine," which is excess, "but be filled with the Spirit." Uh, the truth is, God wants us to be filled with His Spirit. A- and if we go to Him, He will fill us if we open the tank. Hmm. God knows that when we get full of Him, we go do the things that He wants us to do. A- and in so doing, we begin to use up the spiritual gas that He provides, such that we need to be refilled. Oh, look, this, this is such a great example of how the Lord works. Whether you look at the vehicle, you, or the gas, the Spirit, or the destination, the mission, or the miles per gallon used based on the speed or the range or the hills, it, it just, it just all makes sense. If the spiritual bell is going off, you need to get refilled in your spirit. If the red light goes on, you need to pay attention or, or risk running out of power. Every Camino, that is every path, every road traveled, will take some energy. And you and I are just limited in how much we have in our tank. But we can get filled up again, fueled up again. We can turn back to the Lord and ask Him for more of Himself so that we can go do what He wants us to do. Worship and prayer and Bible study and singing, I mean, even things like fasting and meditation, even things like forgiving someone and, and things like confession, all these things can begin to fill the spiritual tank. But here's the deal. [laughs] You can't get the gas in the tank if you don't take the cap off. And you can't get the gas in the tank if you just put the hose in and you don't turn the pump on. Now, here's another deal. Do take the cap off, do put the hose in, and do squeeze the handle and turn on the pump, and the flow of God's Spirit will happen to refill your empty soul. Wow. The reality is that we all need to be refilled. Now, how often may depend on how much your soul is being called upon to believe. How fast you're running toward empty depends on how much of you is being used. But the fact of faith is, and I love that little phrase, the fact of faith. The fact of faith is you're not alone. God is with you even if you run empty, and He's just waiting to fill you up again if you let Him. I said earlier, if I ran out of gas, I could just call a friend and let him take me somewhere, and I could run on his gas for a while. That's where my little spiritual example breaks down, because you and I can't be filled with somebody else's spirit. We can't run on somebody else's power. We need the Lord ourselves, each one of us individually, personally. And it, it's just a fact of life that we might run out of gas, but it's a fact of faith that if we return to the Lord, ask Him to fill us, and let Him fill us, He will do it. Wow. Good morning. This is Wednesday, July the 29th, 2026, and welcome to today's Camino Chronicle. [laughs] I had an urge to write the other day, [laughs] which I did, so, so here it goes. I've been reading a new book titled Faith Still Moves Mountains, written by Harris Faulkner, a TV news anchor, who, as a journalist, is someone used to doing accurate research. She tells 19 stories of God working the impossible, which she calls miracles, because they just seem so beyond the realm of coincidence. In other words, an only God kind of thing, a miracle. Now, one such story is about a couple of teenagers who go for a swim, and they get caught in the tide, caught in the currents, carried out to sea. And the story recounts how they are surely going to drown, exhausted after hours of fighting the current, but eventually rescued in the most beyond coincidence way. A testimony of a miracle of God. Hallelujah. Now, a- as I think back on this, it-- my mind fills with, with a message for the church. A message for parents, of course, but also a message for believers who may find themselves doubting God from time to time. When I was growing up, my parents made sure I learned how to swim. Why? So they could drop me off at the pool for long summer days and not have to pay a babysitter? [laughs] Well, sure. Or so we could go as a family to the ocean for a couple weeks and frolic in the, in the waves and learn how to body surf and avoid jellyfish? Hmm, well, sure. Parents want their kids to learn how to swim so they can have fun, for sure, but mostly so that they will be safe. I remember one summer I learned how to swim in riptide conditions. Riptides are very dangerous to most swimmers and, and should be avoided, because trying to fight the current just wears you out, and you can drown from exhaustion. But if you learn to go with the flow, that is, learn h- how to go with the current and not fight it, you discover that the riptide soon dissolves, and you can swim safely back to shore. There's a powerful spiritual message here. Life brings us lots of currents, lots of powerful forces pulling us this way and that way. Some of us are even found seeking them out on purpose just to discover the, the power and the mystery of the current, even if it is dangerous. Things like drugs, tobacco, and alcohol are three very popular ones, but I'm sure you know of others. These currents are not only attractive to us, but they're powerful enough to take us way far away from the shore upon which we are safe. So many find themselves resisting successfully, and they get back to shore okay. But too many find themselves fighting the currents, getting exhausted, and drowning. But God Almighty has an ocean of currents too, and His currents are also powerful enough to sweep us away. Now, I know my little analogy begins to fall apart, you know, kinda like a wave hitting the shore, but what I'm trying to say is we need to learn how to swim. We need to learn how to be in the ocean of the Lord, not just the waters of the world. We need to get to God, jump in, and learn His ways, learn how to swim, and learn how to float in Him. So back in my Navy days, they, they taught us a swim stroke they called the survival stroke. Now, they did this because over the years, sailors could find themselves in the ocean when their ship or their plane went down, and they want you to survive. Now, it's an easy stroke to learn, and it's very effective. It's kind of a modified side stroke if you are a swimmer, but it maximizes oxygen intake, and it minimizes energy and effort. It's kind of an overhand side stroke with a scissors kick, which you can do for a long time. You see, if you know there is water coming, my metaphor for life, and if you know there will be currents, m- m- my metaphor for trials and tribulations and everything else we don't, don't understand, well, it's wise to know how to swim in the currents. You, you may not have much choice about being in the water. [laughs] I mean, you may just get thrown in. But it's still a good idea to know how to swim. I recommend you learn the Bible stroke as a survival technique. Learning the Bible, that is knowing it, even memorizing it, is like putting on floaties. It's like learning how to side stroke through the hard times until Father, Son, and Holy Spirit show up to rescue you. Hallelujah. If you get caught in a bad current and you begin to lose energy and hope, you can call to mind the promises of God if you know them. And they will lift you up, they will feed your soul, and they will keep you until deliverance. Not all swimming in life is dangerous because sometimes we're swimming with the Lord. Sometimes it's the most glorious of times. I guess we could call that worship or prayer or fellowship. My point is, learn how to swim because the currents of life are real and so is the rescue of the Word of God, the Bible. Faulkner tells us 19 stories of God at work in the lives of regular people to save, heal, and deliver. She calls these miracles. Well, your Bible has many more stories, all showing us how to swim in the currents of life. May the Lord open your mind to His Word as you step into the water. God bless you today. Good morning, everyone. This is Wednesday, July 15th, 2026, and I welcome you to today's edition of Camino Chronicles as we hear a little bit more about the path of life. Uh, if you can look back over your path of life and use spiritual eyes in- instead of just physical ones, you'll begin to see not just the trail, but also the intersections, those places where decisions get made and where consequences are revealed b- because they get lived out in real time. Life creates a record of its history. Now, I love the Bible because it is a record of history. Not, not just telling random stories, but showing us how things play out among real people in real situations. I love the prophetic words in the Bible too, be- because so many of them have actually come to pass just as they said they would. Some of our study Bibles have sections in them listing the, the prophetic words, those scriptures of record spoken long ago, and then they list the fulfillment of those words that came years later. Now, it's pretty hard to dismiss the facts, which is, which is why the record of history part is so wonderful. Now, in, in short, God says something will come to pass a- and folks at the time often dismiss it or they don't understand it or they just don't like it for some reason, until that which God said would come to pass actually happens. A- and there's so much of it. God has not been silent through the ages about what is coming or about whom. [laughs] Now, today I wanna share a bit of prophecy with you. The, the kind that has been said would come, has come, and will come some more. With all of that for my introduction to today's chronicle, I was on an airplane Monday flying home from a wedding in Maryland, and I bought a book to pass the time, and this became for me an intersection. The title of the book is Faith Still Moves Mountains, and it's written by Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner. Journalists know how to research stories, and this is 19 true stories of recorded miracles in modern times. Oh my. Now, one could certainly dismiss them all as just coincidences, just random acts of molecular accidents. [laughs] But folks, that would take far more faith than just believing the reports, the testimonies, the actual eyewitnesses. Now, I haven't finished them all yet, but one thing is jumping out in a very prophetic way, which is what I really wanna hone in on today. Number one, you are not alone. Did you hear me? That's prophecy to you today. You are not alone. Secondly, there is a creator, God. Whether you can see Him, feel Him, or claim to know Him, the fact is He is real. And so number three, this God, whom we now call Jesus, because of the centuries prior foretelling, that is the prophetic word, and the centuries fulfilling birth, death, and resurrection, that is prophecy fulfilled, this God, this Jesus, loves you. Number one, you're not alone. Number two, He is real. Number three, He loves you. Now, number four, which is so hard to comprehend, but so plentiful in actual human lives, this Jesus is moving things around to get your attention. Let me say that again. The Lord God of Heaven, Jesus the Christ, is moving things around to get your attention. And therefore, number five, forget about all human-led re- religion for just a minute and try to grasp that God Almighty is in charge. Number six, and that He is working to get you on the right path and keep you on it, adjusting all the events of human existence, here it comes, for you. Oh my goodness. I finish with number seven, Jesus cares that much, not just about you, but for you. Do I need to review those seven prophetic words real quickly? Number one, you're not alone. Number two, God is real. Number three, He loves you. Number four, He is moving things around to get your attention. Number five, because God Almighty is in charge. Hey, good morning, everyone, and welcome to today's Camino Chronicle. As we... You know, as, as we look at the path of life we're all on, huh, it's pretty cool. I mean, there's just no getting around it. God is in control, and we often don't get it. Hmm. Proverbs 16:9 says so clearly, "The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps." Now, you and I are expert planners, especially for what we want. (laughs) We spend lots of time on researching how to get what we want. We can too easily get frustrated or, or even angry, hmm, when we don't get our own way. Now, th- this business of God being in control, I mean, it makes for nice theological discussions. But when it comes down to us, individually, well, we like to be in control. And, and we act like we know best. And we even challenge the Lord by questioning how things are going, hmm. We're quick to point out to God Almighty that this or that isn't right according to how we see it. We are quick to, to somehow put ourselves in the position of knowing what is right, even if we can't see the whole picture. Hmm. And then, when we do see the bigger picture and realize that there's more to it than we thought, well, we're not so quick to repent, or to apologize, or even to admit that we were wrong. What we're really good at is justifying our position, acting as our own defense attorney before the court of the Lord. Ha ha. Now, as a parent, do you remember when one of your kids would ask, and, and ask in an honest way, not fighting you, but would ask about why something was the way it was? A- and there was no way you could actually tell them, b- because they didn't have the maturity, they didn't have the frame of reference, they didn't have the experience. So you would say something like, "It's okay, honey. You'll understand someday." Hmm. Well, Father God is often saying that to us, "Someday, you'll understand. But for now, just trust me." Along the Camino, I've often gotten great peace just seeing a yellow arrow, because it shows me the way to go, especially at an intersection. And I've learned to trust the yellow arrows and just go that way. Now, I will admit that sometimes I wanna argue with it, pointing out that I think it may be wrong. Hmm. And then, of course, I have to choose to follow or not, and reap the consequences of that choice. For today's Camino Chronicle, the lesson is simply God is in control, of everything, all the time. Hmm. And he's given us lots of yellow arrows to follow, such as his Spirit and his Word, you know, the Bible, e- and even those remarkable times when he seems to speak to our inner man. And let's not forget the folks that he's put into our lives to also speak to us and help us make decisions. Yes, you will plan. And yes, God will direct. So, best to get the two in sync, so that his direction is a flow of life, not a correction of a path chosen. On a recent trip to Alaska, we walked to a glacier with a forest ranger lady, who was giving one of those great ranger talks, you know, and she gave us this quote. And, and, and I share it with you. I quote her. "Learn from the land, flow with the water, and respect all living things." Unquote. You see, our God, the Almighty One, made all the land. He placed all the water, and He spoke into being all living things. We would do well to learn to flow and to respect His creation, don't you think? A fellow by the name of Robert Lee Scott Jr. was a brigadier general in the United States Air Force, and he was a flying ace of World War II, credited with shooting down 13 aircraft. He's best known for his memoir, God is My Co-Pilot, from 1943. It was about his exploits in World War II with the Flying Tigers and with the United States Army Air Force in China and Burma. The book was adapted as a film by the same name, released in 1945. It's kind of cool to think of the Lord God being that close to you, to being your co-pilot. But a few years ago, I heard a guy say, "If God is your co-pilot, change seats." Yes, we want to be in control, but it just seems to work better when the Lord is in control, e- even if we don't understand what He's up to. Th- that's why at, at DaySpring, our church in Banks, we've adopted the saying, "God is up to something." Because, well, we have tried being the pilot of our lives, and we've discovered that He's better at it than we are. Yes, God is up to something. So, let Him have His way. It just works better. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to today's Camino Chronicle as I'm back (laughs) after a couple weeks of actually being on the Camino del Norte in Spain. I had a wonderful time with two of my granddaughters and survived the 105 degree heat wave. Oh my goodness. For today's Camino Chronicle, I want to declare to you, a king is coming. Now, I've been saying that a king is coming for quite a while, and I get mostly blank stares. Look, I- I'm not trying to pick a fight. I- I'm not trying to sound weird, but I am alarmed by the indifference, not- not just in the, in the world, but especially in the Church. People seem so dominated by their own lives, uh, all the tasks of the day, all the concerns for family and health or, or whatever, that being concerned about Jesus' return isn't given much attention. Excuse me. Sort of like the cry wolf story. So, it gets forgotten. Look, I get it. We are all self-centered. We're all self-concerned, self-absorbed, selfish people. Even when we try to be other centered because of how we, we have to do that, we want to be in charge. I want to offer you a new way of looking at this subject. Not only is the king coming, according to the Bible, but this king is going to set up, establish, and rule his kingdom. Excuse me. But I get ahead of myself. We Americans don't think well of the idea of a king. We fought a revolution to get free from one, and we act like we don't have a king over us now. (laughs) Saturday is July 4th, and for us Americans, it's our Independence Day. That alone should give you pause. Are you really independent today, or do you realize that you do need some help? If a kingdom is the realm of a king, well then what do we call our multiple governments? We have a national government and state government. We have county governments. We have city governments. We even have things like HOAs to rule over us, homeowners associations (laughs) ... gone wild. Now, look, I'm sure you can think of more, but businesses i- in our capitalist society surely establish kingdoms, as do all the nonprofits. I mean, even the churches are well-infused with internal government oversight. Hmm. Back in the Old Testament, there is the sad tale of a people who actually asked God to give them a king so that they could be (laughs) like the pagan nations around them. Now, the Lord was wanting to be their king, but they rejected Him as such, and they even wanted to do away with His government of them by what were called the judges. Well, so God gave them over to human kings. Now, what follows is the record. History tells us how it went. There were some good kings and... with things going better, but there were so many bad kings that the people grew to despise their situation. I- it's interesting to me that when things are going well for us, w- we tend to ignore the Lord. Then when things go badly, especially if they go very badly, th- the people rent their clothes, they try to repent, they get fervent in their prayers for deliverance and help. All of this history, of course, set up the first coming of Jesus Christ, the New Testament, and the record of God's amazing grace as the Bible unfolds for us some information about what is to come. Well, what is coming? A king is coming, a king who will rule and reign supremely, sovereignly over his domain, which will include, well, everything. (laughs) Before we try to understand this king or his coming or his kingdom, let's go back and look again at what a kingdom is and see if you are part of one or, or have a kingdom of your own. I mean, how many kingdoms can you think of? Is your home your castle? Is your business or your job set up as a kingdom? Are your sports teams not kingdoms of their own? I mean, face it. You are surrounded by kingdoms, and you yourself spend a lot of time trying to establish your own kingdom. Your ideas of what is moral get defended by rules and regulations, laws, if you will, that you establish- Hmm. ... and are willing to submit to, which are the ways these kingdoms work. Town councils become kingdoms, as do our volunteer organizations, you know, like the Lion's Club. Your neighborhood associations are kingdoms. I mean, the list is almost endless. Think about hurt feelings as somehow your sense of what is right gets violated and how strongly you can defend your rights. Hmm. After all, this is America. All our political goings-on are simply kingdoms in conflict, each trying to win the day so that they can rule. You see, this is a reality, that kingdoms exist, and that we not only participate in them, excuse me, but we often get into emotional blowouts by some perfe- perceived kingdom offense. The human way seems to be universally structured to establishing and maintaining kingdoms everywhere. This actually gets me very excited because as I look at history and all the failures of the human way, and then read about Jesus Christ who will come again to this planet and establish His kingdom, His rule, well, come on. It's (laughs) it's going to be supernaturally better than the way we're running the place. (laughs) It's gonna be so good, the enemy doesn't even want me to give this message. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to today's Camino Chronicle as I'm back (laughs) after a couple weeks of actually being on the Camino del Norte in Spain. I had a wonderful time with two of my granddaughters and survived the 105 degree heat wave. Oh my goodness. For today's Camino Chronicle, I want to declare to you, a king is coming. Now, I've been saying that a king is coming for quite a while, and I get mostly blank stares. Look, I- I'm not trying to pick a fight. I- I'm not trying to sound weird, but I am alarmed by the indifference, not- not just in the, in the world, but especially in the Church. People seem so dominated by their own lives, uh, all the tasks of the day, all the concerns for family and health or, or whatever, that being concerned about Jesus' return isn't given much attention. Excuse me. Sort of like the cry wolf story. So, it gets forgotten. Look, I get it. We are all self-centered. We're all self-concerned, self-absorbed, selfish people. Even when we try to be other centered because of how we, we have to do that, we want to be in charge. I want to offer you a new way of looking at this subject. Not only is the king coming, according to the Bible, but this king is going to set up, establish, and rule his kingdom. Excuse me. But I get ahead of myself. We Americans don't think well of the idea of a king. We fought a revolution to get free from one, and we act like we don't have a king over us now. (laughs) Saturday is July 4th, and for us Americans, it's our Independence Day. That alone should give you pause. Are you really independent today, or do you realize that you do need some help? If a kingdom is the realm of a king, well then what do we call our multiple governments? We have a national government and state government. We have county governments. We have city governments. We even have things like HOAs to rule over us, homeowners associations (laughs) ... gone wild. Now, look, I'm sure you can think of more, but businesses i- in our capitalist society surely establish kingdoms, as do all the nonprofits. I mean, even the churches are well-infused with internal government oversight. Hmm. Back in the Old Testament, there is the sad tale of a people who actually asked God to give them a king so that they could be (laughs) like the pagan nations around them. Now, the Lord was wanting to be their king, but they rejected Him as such, and they even wanted to do away with His government of them by what were called the judges. Well, so God gave them over to human kings. Now, what follows is the record. History tells us how it went. There were some good kings and... with things going better, but there were so many bad kings that the people grew to despise their situation. I- it's interesting to me that when things are going well for us, w- we tend to ignore the Lord. Then when things go badly, especially if they go very badly, th- the people rent their clothes, they try to repent, they get fervent in their prayers for deliverance and help. All of this history, of course, set up the first coming of Jesus Christ, the New Testament, and the record of God's amazing grace as the Bible unfolds for us some information about what is to come. Well, what is coming? A king is coming, a king who will rule and reign supremely, sovereignly over his domain, which will include, well, everything. (laughs) Before we try to understand this king or his coming or his kingdom, let's go back and look again at what a kingdom is and see if you are part of one or, or have a kingdom of your own. I mean, how many kingdoms can you think of? Is your home your castle? Is your business or your job set up as a kingdom? Are your sports teams not kingdoms of their own? I mean, face it. You are surrounded by kingdoms, and you yourself spend a lot of time trying to establish your own kingdom. If I look a, a little bit dark in the screen, it's because I'm coming to you from my new apartment and haven't quite worked out the lighting yet. But anyway, you get the idea. Now, this will be my last Camino for the month of June because I'm actually leaving in a few days for Spain again to walk another Camino. And I'm rejoicing because this time, I'll be joined by two of my granddaughters. (laughs) What a wonderful blessing it is for a grandpa to get to spend such focused time with his grandkids, with all day for two weeks to discover the sights and the sounds and the people and the foods (laughs) and the countryside of Spain along the Mediterranean Sea. I'm looking forward to all the encounters during the day, and then all the retellings of those encounters when we get together in the afternoon and evening. Can you even imagine, huh? Now, some folks have asked me, "Why am I doing this?" And then they ask again, w- "Why are you going again?" since this will be my fourth time on Camino. In the past, I've tried to explain it as an unction, just something that one has to do. I've tried to explain it as a spiritual adventure, sort of a calling, which I said was a God thing, something He was compelling me to do. But the other day, I got a better answer. (laughs) I was watching TV, and a commercial came on. I can't even tell you what the commercial was presenting, but I so remember the actor doing the presentation. Here on my TV was the famous Morgan Freeman pitching some product. I can't tell you what, but he had one of the best punchlines of all time. He looked at you right in the eye, the camera coming in close so you could almost feel it right where you were, and he said something like this, "It's time to start living." At least that's the way I remember it. Maybe I'll see that commercial again this weekend, pay better attention to what he actually said, but I think you get my point. It's time to start living. One of my favorite shows on public television is a travel log by Rick Steves. He goes all over Europe, seeing the sights and recording the sounds, meeting the people, encouraging his viewers to keep on traveling. For one of his shows, he went to Middle East, and he talked to young people, both Israelis and Palestinians, asking them about their lives and their hopes and dreams. He, he wasn't doing a news broadcast about the war or, or politics really, just about how they felt about life. And these young people expressed the same hopes and dreams that you have, to love and be loved, to raise a family, a- and to be at peace, and to get to that place where they too could, as Morgan Freeman said so well, to just start living. Y- you may not be on the Camino in Spain, but you are surely on a path going somewhere. M- my prayer is that you will be on that path that the Lord has for you. The, the word camino in Spanish means path, or, or better it means way. In Spain, it's called the Way of Saint James because it honors his travels across Spain to share the good news of Jesus Christ. James, you see, told the folks that Jesus Christ is the way, that they should follow Him if they wanted the peace that passes all understanding. So here's what I recommend if you wanna start living, and you don't have time to go to Spain to do it. (laughs) Go for a long walk and talk to God. Make the walk long enough that you can tell Him everything that's on your mind, everything. You'll probably have no problem thinking of stuff you wish He would fix in your life, so just tell Him. He, He can handle whatever it is you got. It would be nice if you could thank the Lord for all the good stuff, but it is really okay to get honest and tell Him what's really on your mind, all the problems, all the confusions, all the doubts, even all the complaints about how you don't think He is doing this Earth business the right way. Hmm. Uh, at least according to you. If you will take this walk soon and repeat it a few times over several days, you will either be drawn in closer to Jesus Christ or you will shut Him down by your stubborn selfishness. Now, I know about this on both sides, (sighs) and learning to abide by another old saying, "Let go and let God." The thing is, it just works if you let it. You see, even the commercialized television pitch is presenting a truth, perhaps unintended, but still truth. It's time to start living, and the voice that's calling you to start living is Jesus. And the other voice, the one telling you to ignore the Lord, well, we know who that voice is. Wouldn't it be fantastic if you and I could connect the two recommendations, one from Rick Steves to keep on traveling and the other from Morgan Freeman to start living? Good morning. This is Wednesday, June the 3rd, 2026, and I'm coming to you a little early this morning with this edition of Camino Chronicles (laughs) because I have a meeting to go to. Oh, the joys of meetings, right? (laughs) Well, as Mike Carroll would say, here's the deal: Words are what we use to try and say something the other person will understand (laughs). The other day, I was drawn by the Lord to the word "distracted." I wasn't distracted. I was led. But the word "distracted" is kind of unique. I- it's even insightful. Now I- I'm sure we're all distracted a lot, every day, but what does it really mean? It means to be dis-tracked-ed, or off track, or missing the mark. Webster says it's having our attention diverted. It's, it's like being disturbed, huh. And that, too, is an interesting word, because Webster has the word "disturbed," but not the word "'turbed." (laughs) To be disturbed, he says is having your peace and/or your quiet interrupted. Mm-hmm. But I've never heard that when you're at peace, I've, I've never heard of that as being 'turbed. Oh, well, look. You get it, don't you? What was God trying to say to me with this, this business of being distracted? Could it have to do with one's spiritual life? A- and once we know what that's all about, we would want to learn how to not be distracted so we could stay on track, on the path that we're supposed to be on, going in the right direction, right? To be distracted while driving your car can lead to some serious problems, and most of the time, we handle the distractions with- without problems. But what about in our spiritual lives? Isn't our relationship with Jesus Christ the most important one we have? Well, of course it is. Is it realistic to think we could stay focused on Him all day long? Hmm. Is it realistic to think that Jesus would lead us all day long? We say we know He is here and He loves us, h- and He never leaves us, but do we return to the presence, the love, the moments that we want to spend with Him? You know, when, when the Lord set up this Earth thing, He told us to work for six days a week, and then He said to take a day for rest. Now, He surely knew that working would take our attention, that raising our family would take our attention, that tending to our spouse, or our business, or even our fields w- would take our attention. And apparently, He was cool with that, because He established that on the day of rest, we would spend it with Him, but we don't. Yeah, we may spend an hour or two at church, hmm, maybe one day a week, two at the most, but most of our modern lives are not focused on Jesus. Yes, we are very distracted, but, you see, here is the deal: Jesus knows this and He wants to help. He's not mad at us. He really wants to help us, because Jesus Christ wants us to spend time with Him, because, eh, I think He likes us. I mean, after all, He created us. (laughs) Well, you know, He died for us so that we could have an abundant life. So, I do recommend beginning your day, all seven of them, with a short devotional time. You know, reading some Bible, even using one of the great devotionals readily available out there, eh, to help you focus. It doesn't take a whole lot of discipline to set your alarm five minutes earlier and begin the day with the Lord. Y- you may find it so helpful to your soul that you set the alarm earlier and earlier to g- to give you more time at the beginning of your day. I also recommend learning to worship, eh, not just singing some Christian songs, but, as good as they are, but really taking some time to tell Jesus how much He means to you and how much you love Him. I mean, start with praise, you know, before you get to your list of wants. I think He likes that, even though He did tell us to ask Him, you know, for whatever.Now, i- if this stuff works out and you grow in your faith and connection to God, you'll probably find you're spending more of the seventh day at peace. I mean, even at rest. Oh, boy, I... Listen, I realize there are almost endless, limitless distractions out there to get us off track and keep us off track. But we have the Holy Spirit available to us to equip us with the power to focus on Jesus Christ. I say that because I've discovered it myself. I can attest to it. I surely know what distraction does, (laughs) and I'm pretty much an expert at being distracted. And I'm fully engaged in this battle every day to not only put God first, but to keep him there. Morning devotions help me. I mean, the Bible helps me. Prayer helps me. Worship and, and songs of praise help me. The Lord has given us even more things to help us, to help us not be so distracted. He's given us families and co-workers and church people we call brothers and sisters. He's given us what we call nature to get our attention to his amazing creative power, which, which is why I love to spend time out there. And I encourage you, take a long walk to be alone with the Lord. In this busy modern world so full of technology and distractions, I urge you to take care of your spirit as well as your body. Oh, yes. (laughs) Here's the deal. If you pursue the Lord, he will let you find him and he will draw you closer and closer because he actually wants to spend time with you so that he can actually lead you in the ways you should go. He really wants to help us, because Jesus Christ wants us to spend time with Him, because, eh, I think He likes us. I mean, after all, He created us. (laughs) Well, you know, He died for us so that we could have an abundant life. So, I do recommend beginning your day, all seven of them, with a short devotional time. You know, reading some Bible, even using one of the great devotionals readily available out there, eh, to help you focus. It doesn't take a whole lot of discipline to set your alarm five minutes earlier and begin the day with the Lord. Y- you may find it so helpful to your soul that you set the alarm earlier and earlier to g- to give you more time at the beginning of your day. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to this edition of Camino Chronicles. (laughs) Uh, it's about those paths of life that we travel. Human language is a fascinating thing. A- and we certainly need it. I mean, there are thousands of languages in the world. And they all share the same purpose, right? T- to try and say something (laughs) in a way that it's understood by both the speaker and the hearer. Yeah. I learned the other day that some languages don't just have sounds like, like, th- the ways the words are pronounced, you know, with things like vowels and consonants that we have in English. No. I mean, like a long A versus a short A, as in, "Have a nice day," versus, "Have a nice day." Oh my goodness. But some languages even differentiate their words based on the tone combined with a low, medium, or high pitch. Now, I don't even know how to give an example of this 'cause I don't (laughs) speak that language. But imagine the same tonal sound spoken with low, medium, or higher volume giving three different meanings to the same word. (laughs) No wonder husbands and wives have trouble communicating. (laughs) Which brings me, of course, to Hebrew. (laughs) Okay, I don't speak Hebrew, not even a little bit. In, in order though to study the Bible sometimes, I need to, to look up a word that's printed in English, which, which I kind of speak, and try to discover the deeper meaning that word might have in Hebrew, i- if there is one. And the Old Testament can confuse us at times, right, reading it in English, so it's helpful to use a Hebrew-English dictionary sometimes to get a better grasp on the original text. Because of the translation differences, which could greatly change the meaning of the text, Bible students often take courses in Hebrew, learning the language for themselves, so they could be better scholars. I mean, this can get really fascinating (laughs) and complicated, especially if you add in the cultural differences among the many people groups that the Bible takes us to. Now, (laughs) if you're still with me, what happened the other day was I became interested in the word miracle. Miracle. What a great word miracle is. I mean, it's a wonder, i- it's a sign, a portent of some kind. I- it- it's something we can't really explain. I- miracle, I- it's something that we people of faith credit the Lord God as being the instrument or, or the worker of the miracle. We might say a miracle is a divine thing, or maybe we'd call it an act of God. A- and sometimes we credit God directly for performing the miracle, and other times we might say the miracle done by the hands of a human was no less an act of God, just that this time, He, God, (laughs) used a human to get the job done. One of the earliest uses of this word miracle comes in the Book of Exodus when Moses is sent by the Lord to go to the Egyptian Pharaoh and first request, but then demand, "Let my people go." Here it is in Exodus chapter seven. Let me just read verses eight and nine, and I quote, "Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 'Pharaoh will demand, "Show me a miracle," when he does, say to Aaron, "Take your staff and throw it down in front of Pharaoh and it will become a serpent."'" End quote. So they did this, of course, and Pharaoh was not too impressed. (laughs) He just called his wise men, sometimes called sorcerers or magicians or whatever, a- and they did the same thing, turning their staffs into snakes. Now, e- you have to understand that Moses wasn't all that keen on the idea of going to Pharaoh in the first place. But his faith in God won the day, so he obeyed. And then when Aaron's rod actually became a snake, Moses was surely emboldened by the power of God and by the fact that God was up to something pretty big. Yeah. But then Pharaoh's magicians seemed to be able to do the same thing.Now, how do you think this made Moses feel? (laughs) Okay, here comes the difference, the huge difference between magic and miracle. You're not gonna read this in a, uh, Hebrew-English dictionary, (laughs) or probably in any regular commentary. I, I just stumbled across this little tidbit yesterday. Hallelujah. (clears throat) Okay. I told you I became interested in the word miracle, and the more I read about it, the more fascinated I get, a- and the more hungry I get for, for the Lord God of Heaven to work in us what only He can do. Those miracles that we encounter that leave us awestruck, wanting more of Him. Uh, not, not for the miracle, but for the very presence of the one actually working the wonder, per- performing the miracle, like the words in that old song, power, power, (laughs) wonder-working power. The more I contemplate Jesus Christ, the more I just want Him to come, not, not because my life is bad o- or hard at times, but because with Jesus Christ, it is well with my soul, right? I don't worship the miracle. I worship the miracle worker. A- and, and I realize that my entire life is in His hands to do with according to His will. (laughs) And, and as I look back over my years, I'm in awe because of so many miracles connecting so many dots to get me to the here and now. Okay. Now, here it comes. Here's the big finish for today's Camino. The English word miracle is translite- literated from the Hebrew word M-O-P-E-T, which we might pronounce Mopet. Now, since I don't speak Hebrew, like I said earlier, I looked up this word M-O-P-E-T to see both its definition and its pronunciation. It is not pronounced Mopet. Why in English we put the accent on the first syllable, I don't know. But at first look, if you write the letters M-O-P-E-T, you're gonna say Mopet. But it's actually pronounced Mofaith, as in more faith. And the emphasis, the accent is on the second syllable, (laughs) which is pronounced faith. Now, (laughs) go ahead, if you want, look it up yourself (laughs) or call a Jewish synagogue and ask for a rabbi to pronounce it for you, or you could do as I did and ask Siri to pronounce it, and you're gonna discover it sounds very much like Mofaith. Now, what a coincidence that miracle is a lot like Mofaith. You, you see, our Camino today, that, that trail we are walking together, is really all about faith. The, the big issue is, therefore, what do we really believe in? U- or hmm- I would pray today that your faith, a- as well as my own, is placed in the Lord Jesus Christ, not some human magician. In the Moses and Pharaoh story, you'll remember that Aaron threw down his staff, it turned into a snake. Pharaoh was not impressed. He called his magicians. They threw their staffs down, they turned into snakes. It's kind of like Pharaoh was saying, "Anything you can do, I can do better." Except that then Aaron's staff snake, ah, ate up all the other snakes. Mofaith. Mofaith. I close with a short verse out of the New Testament, Ephesians 3:20. And Dear One, this is for you today. And I quote, "Now, unto Him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Good morning. This is Wednesday, April 29th, 2026.
Good morning, and welcome to today's Camino Chronicle.
What is very important to kids today as well as back in the last century is to fit in.
Do you know what it's like to not fit in?
To not be a part of the in crowd?
To be picked last for those games that kids play?
You see, society, by its very nature, tries to get us to be a part.
But some just don't fit in, and it can be very painful for them.
So, lots of folks make adjustments to try and fit in.
And sometimes, not healthy adjustments, leading to all kinds of emotional and even psychological issues.
But here's the deal.
God knows all about this, because God is the creator of each one of us.
And he can see everything.
And he loves us so much, he will enter our lives to help us, if we will let him.
Now, what I'm aware of is that we need to pay attention to what we are fitting in to.
We need to pay attention to what we are willing to join and what sacrifices we must pay or compromises we must make to do so.
Now, here's a sobering thought when considering joining something.
We, we are not of this world.
We are living in a strange land, the Bible says, as aliens.
We don't fit in here unless we're willing to join the worldly and give up the spiritual.
Now, look, I get it.
We, we used to use the word alien to speak of other worldly space invader types.
But the Bible uses it to speak of not just foreigners, like we refer to so many folks today, but also to those who are estranged, shut out from fellowship and intimacy.
Well, this begins to get right to it.
If you are a committed follower of Jesus Christ, you will find yourself estranged from the world and shut out by lots of people.
As you discover, you no longer fit in to the world, but you'll also discover that you now do fit in to a much better group whom the Bible calls the church.
And it tells us that Jesus Christ is the head of it, that the church is becoming his bride and that a great wedding day awaits us.
Oh, you'll be shut out from the world, perhaps, but you'll be accepted into this much better fellowship and intimacy.
You know, when I was a kid, I often tried to avoid the games where they picked sides because I didn't get picked early and it hurt.
And you could say, therefore, I shrunk back.
But then I discovered something incredibly wonderful right in the Bible.
Hebrews 10.39.
Listen to this.
It speaks directly to my soul and I hope yours as well.
Hebrews 10.39.
And I quote,
But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.
End quote.
That's the New American Standard Bible.
I like the New Living.
Listen to what it says.
But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction.
We are the faithful ones whose souls will be saved.
End quote.
Look, no matter which translation you turn to, to shrink back to destruction is the same as turning away from God.
And it just isn't going to give you a good result.
Now, I don't usually give homework in these Camino Chronicles, but I sure advise you today to read 2 Corinthians chapter 4 to get more about this.
For example, in verse 1, it says,
Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, this new Camino, we never give up.
Verse 8.
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we're not crushed.
We're perplexed, but we're not driven to despair.
Wow.
Verse 16 says,
That is why we never give up.
Verse 18 says,
So we don't look at the troubles we can see now.
Rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen.
For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
Wow.
The word of God is so wonderful.
Our fellowship with Jesus Christ is and will be so much better than this world can offer.
And the intimacy with him will be glorious.
So, I don't worry about fitting in so much anymore.
And in fact, I've been on guard to what I may be fitting in to.
There's just so much out there trying to get me to join in.
I mean, stuff that isn't good for me.
And I dare say you're in the same boat.
I invite you to Jesus.
Join his group.
Either get to the church or get back to the church, his church, and you will be amazed
at how fitting in there will answer your questions and give you the abundant life you're looking for.

Good morning. This is Wednesday, May the 6th, 2026, and I welcome you to today's edition
of Camino Chronicles. And today we're going to talk about something very, a very specific
path. Today is going to be a very intentional and intentional and specific path that we
walk. I realize that not everyone can go to Spain and walk the Camino de Santiago, but
everyone can walk this path and should. I confess that even as I exhort you to do this,
that I need to practice what I preach. Okay, this is a little bit about identity, about
how you are known. So it's important. We all have identity, lots of different ways that
we are known. For example, I'm known as a guy who likes to travel. I'm known as someone who
used to play a lot of golf. I'm known as a man with a large family. I'm also known as a man
of God. And by that I mean others know that I believe in Jesus Christ and that I rejoice
to know that I will spend eternity with him. Hallelujah. But what I'm not probably known
as, as a powerful identifier, what I would like to be known as, is a man of prayer. Not just
a man who prays, but as one who talks to God, not with lists, but with the ability to get
through to the Lord. As James says in his little gospel, the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous
man availeth much. Prayer is one thing, and fervent prayer is surely more intense. But what I'm looking
for is the effectual part, the part that seems to be connected because of righteousness. Now,
I'm reminded of a story about Bubba Watson. He's a PGA golfer who's won the Masters. He's had great
success. And an interviewer asked him the question, what do you need to do to be a better golfer?
Bubba Watson replied, I don't need to be a better golfer. I need to be a better man.
To be honest, I don't even know if that story is true, but the point is well made.
I don't want to just be a man who prays. I want to be a man whose prayers are effectual.
Well, of course, this means that I need to be more like Jesus. Wow. Well, the good news is that he,
Jesus, also wants this for me. Jesus Christ wants me to be more like him, and he wants you to be more
like him. And he's available to us 24-7 to help us if we will let him. All of that to say that
tomorrow night is the national day of prayer here in the U.S. It is a call to prayer, of course,
but I suggest that what we want is effectual prayer, not just voluminous prayer.
If you're in the area here of Banks, Oregon, I invite you to our service tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
as we're going to gather, and we'll be together and kind of join in the spirit with millions of
other Americans to call upon the Lord for our nation. But don't wait for tomorrow. Start today
to pray for me to pray for this country, because surely we need the Lord. There's an old saying,
try it, you'll like it. That may apply here. Because I found out that when I determine to pray,
when I commit to it, the Lord shows up, and he begins to give me things and people to pray about
and for. My world doesn't collapse if I don't pray. And I'm not saying prayer is some kind of a quid pro
quo thing where we somehow get to manipulate God to do our bidding. Not at all. I'm just telling you
that when I do pray that when I do pray, my soul is different. It's just better. Spending time with Jesus
is just better. My closing prayer would be not just for me, not just for you, not just for the nation.
It is all-inclusive. But my prayer is, may the Lord bless you today and draw you closer to Jesus,
making our prayers much more effectual as Jesus makes us more righteous. Wow. I pray this

Good morning, and welcome to this edition of Camino Chronicles.
You know, the language that we have, this English language, it's very useful most of the time.
We usually know how to say what we mean, and folks usually understand what we say.
But sometimes our language doesn't work so well.
We have trouble putting into words what we mean.
And on the other hand, sometimes just don't understand the words that others use.
Today, I want to look at two simple words you hear all the time.
They often seem to mean almost the same thing.
But until you dig a little deeper and perhaps are guided by the Spirit of God, I'm going
to use the first definition in my dictionary for each of these words to make a point.
The two words are award and reward.
You probably know them so well, you may want to argue with any of my differentiations about
these words, but hear me out.
We've come through a lot of the awards season of Hollywood.
Lots of awards given out.
Webster says award means to give as due or merited.
So lots of little statues were awarded to those who were deemed to have merited or deserved the award.
All year long, the various sports organizations do the same thing.
And we're soon to come to the graduation season, where, again, lots of awards will be given out.
I mean, it feels great to get an award.
Because an award is usually the recognition of something a person did or accomplished.
Something earned.
It just feels great to be recognized for what you did and to get a little something for it,
even if it's only a little piece of paper.
Now, a reward, on the other hand, according to Mr. Webster,
is a sum of money offered for the recovering of lost or stolen property.
That's the first meaning of reward.
Now, the next meaning of the word reward sounds almost as the same as the definition for award.
So it gets confusing, this language of ours.
But let's stick, for illustrative purposes here, let's stick with the first definition.
A reward.
Something you get for, you know, recovering that which was lost or stolen.
We all know what it means to get a reward for recovering something.
And it feels good.
It just feels right to help others.
And if you get a benefit as a reward, well, that's good, too.
Now, from time to time in the Christian faith, the subject of the end times comes up,
sometimes called the last days.
Periods of trials and tribulations cause folks to increase their interest
in what the Bible says about this,
while periods of blessing and abundance tend to give us spiritual amnesia about what is coming.
The Bible is pretty clear in telling us we don't know and we won't know until it is happening.
But it also tells us to be alert, to keep watching, and to be ready.
When I was young, I didn't care too much about the end times,
as I was too consumed with my own times.
But now that I'm older and more fascinated by these Bible passages,
plus the fact that one way or the other, my end times are approaching.
So, I mean, if the Lord tarries, well, I'll go to meet him before he comes for me.
Now, let's connect the dots and consider something.
Going to heaven is not an award.
It's not based on something I earned or accomplished.
The only two things the Bible tells me I get to do to be saved
are, number one, confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord,
and number two, believe in my heart that God raised him from the dead.
Hallelujah.
I am not awarded my place in eternity based on my works.
It's all because of Jesus Christ.
Now, the reward, that's even more special,
because I'm not the one recovering the lost or stolen property.
In fact, I am the lost property.
Jesus Christ is the one recovering me.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Jesus is a heaven-sent bounty hunter,
and he's looking for each of us.
The reward he gets is to be with us for eternity.
You see what I mean about how language can get tied up with different meanings?
Look, the point is, and always is,
Jesus Christ is Lord, not us.
And Jesus Christ is coming for you.
He's on the hunt.
He wants you and me.
Praise God.
You are the reward for the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
You are something special.
What he accomplished is your eternity in heaven, if you let it be so.
I would say this is pretty good news.
And it's worth our paying attention to.
On the Camino de Santiago across Spain, there are mostly little yellow arrows along the path,
pointing the way so you don't get lost.
Ignore the arrows and you get lost.
Being lost is no good.
So folks backtrack to where they got off the path and they make the correction to go in the right direction.
The Bible calls this discovery of being off the path confession and getting back on track, it calls repentance.
So there it is, dear ones, awards and rewards, confessions and repentances, all words being used.
This is our language to try and help us not get lost and, if lost, to get found.
Praise God for the award of heaven we get, because of the reward to Jesus Christ for what he has done for us.
Yes, indeed.
Jesus paid it all.
All to him.

Good morning, and welcome to this edition of Camino Chronicles.
You know, the language that we have, this English language, it's very useful most of the time.
We usually know how to say what we mean, and folks usually understand what we say.
But sometimes our language doesn't work so well.
We have trouble putting into words what we mean.
And on the other hand, sometimes just don't understand the words that others use.
Today, I want to look at two simple words you hear all the time.
They often seem to mean almost the same thing.
But until you dig a little deeper and perhaps are guided by the Spirit of God, I'm going
to use the first definition in my dictionary for each of these words to make a point.
The two words are award and reward.
You probably know them so well, you may want to argue with any of my differentiations about
these words, but hear me out.
We've come through a lot of the awards season of Hollywood.
Lots of awards given out.
Webster says award means to give as due or merited.
So lots of little statues were awarded to those who were deemed to have merited or deserved the award.
All year long, the various sports organizations do the same thing.
And we're soon to come to the graduation season, where, again, lots of awards will be given out.
I mean, it feels great to get an award.
Because an award is usually the recognition of something a person did or accomplished.
Something earned.
It just feels great to be recognized for what you did and to get a little something for it,
even if it's only a little piece of paper.
Now, a reward, on the other hand, according to Mr. Webster,
is a sum of money offered for the recovering of lost or stolen property.
That's the first meaning of reward.
Now, the next meaning of the word reward sounds almost as the same as the definition for award.
So it gets confusing, this language of ours.
But let's stick, for illustrative purposes here, let's stick with the first definition.
A reward.
Something you get for, you know, recovering that which was lost or stolen.
We all know what it means to get a reward for recovering something.
And it feels good.
It just feels right to help others.
And if you get a benefit as a reward, well, that's good, too.
Now, from time to time in the Christian faith, the subject of the end times comes up,
sometimes called the last days.
Periods of trials and tribulations cause folks to increase their interest
in what the Bible says about this,
while periods of blessing and abundance tend to give us spiritual amnesia about what is coming.

We are in what is called a midterm election cycle,
which historically goes against whichever party is in power at the time.
Now, why do you suppose this is?
Why would we vote in someone or vote for certain measures
only to so quickly want to kick them out or change them?
I think I have some insight into this self-government business.
So, you know, you'll either agree or disagree. It's okay with me.
And as was so famously quoted a while back, and I quote,
follow the money, end quote, it causes all kinds of problems.
The more we look into how money is spent by government, the less we like it.
So, we quickly move to throw the bums out and hope to start over again and again.
I mean, after all, it's our money they're spending, right?
So, politicians generally get elected by making promises.
And if enough people like those promises that they're hearing, that's who they vote for.
And most of those promises cost more money.
And we're so unhappy with the way things are going, we're willing to vote for a new approach
and throw in even more money.
Our national debt is now over $38 trillion.
And that's trillion with the teeth.
I mean, it just costs money to keep those promises.
Now, another thing I've noticed is that most of the new promises just cost extra money.
They don't take care of funding for the previous promises.
I mean, it's kind of like we build a highway system and forget to fund the maintenance of the thing, you know?
We wait for the roads to break and the potholes to form,
and then we just come back for more money in a few years, of course.
Instead of doing what you and I have to do with our budgets,
we just provide for what we have already spent.
Oh, my goodness.
If you apply that thought to all the line items in the budget,
you can see how we're always going to just need more and more.
Have you noticed that when countries get tired of fighting a war,
which is expensive,
they call a truce or they push the pause button.
Now it's called a ceasefire.
Oh, gosh.
Stopping the killing is a good thing, of course.
But it also stops the spending.
Hmm.
Well, I think it's time to call a cease-spending truce of some kind.
Government needs to stop borrowing from us taxpayers
and start actually paying back the debt they owe,
all of which makes for great campaign rhetoric
with very little follow-through,
up to $38 trillion with a T.
Now, let me ask,
have you ever tried to borrow money from a bank
and gotten turned down?
Turned down because your debt-to-income ratio was too high?
Why do they care?
You mean the banks are actually concerned about being paid back?
What a concept.
Okay, okay.
Why am I even talking about all of this?
In a podcast that's devoted to helping people with their faith walk,
not so much their worldly walk.
Hmm.
Well, it's because this is an important spiritual concern.
The whole idea of self-government
was originally built on a spiritual foundation of faith in God,
meaning that our founders realized
the Lord God needed to be the one guiding our self-government.
You see, a government submitted to God's ways.
Walking a Camino with Jesus is always better than walking alone.
Following Him is always better than following, you know,
just our own impulses.
And history proves this over and over for thousands of years.
Wake up, America, before it's too late.
It's not just about the money.
But the money sure shines a light on priorities.
If you want to look at promises,
look at the promises of God Almighty.
And then look at the requirements He has to maintain those promises.
Now listen, I get it.
Going all religious doesn't seem to get the potholes in the pavement fixed.
Or do any of the other line items in the budget.
Hmm.
Or does it?
What would happen if we actually tried it?
If we actually did what the Lord suggested?
If we actually followed His ways.
Hmm.
Is there any biblical historical proof that God listens to the cries of His people?
That He actually helps them when they submit to Him?
Is there any proof that He frees them from bondages,
delivers them from the evil one,
and causes them to prosper in their ways of life?
Is there any proof that God has ever intervened in the affairs of man?
Wow.
Of course there is.
Has this business of self-government,
the way we understand it today,
the way we're trying to use it today,
has it ever worked out for very long anywhere without the Lord God Almighty?
Hmm.
Well, go ahead and vote your conscience.
But maybe take your conscience on a Camino with God first,
and ask Him how to vote.
And even better,
hmm,
ask Him to hurry up and come again,
because we need Him.
They say you're not supposed to mix the church and the state.
Not because the church might hurt the state,
but because they don't want the state hurting the church.
That's the argument.
But hold on there.
The God I know isn't too worried about being hurt by us.
He can handle anything and everything.
He's actually trying to show us
how not to hurt each other.
Wait.
Wait a minute.
Am I now talking about love?
Oh, my.
